Position Summary

The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will collaborate closely with the Data Architects/Systems Support Engineer, Research Laboratory, and Clinical Laboratory Managers to ensure the smooth operation of laboratory activities by providing both technical support and expertise in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). The technician will assist in the management of lab supplies inventory, proper storage, and accurate documentation. They will also collaborate closely with the Field Service Technician to provide hands-on support for the maintenance and repair of laboratory instruments, ensuring all equipment functions at optimal levels.

This position requires strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve instrument-related issues. The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will contribute to the overall efficiency and reliability of the laboratory, supporting its commitment to high-quality research and diagnostic services.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operation and management of PREVAIL LIS and 24/7 support.
  • Collaborate with Data Architects and Systems Support Engineers to ensure seamless operation of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Provide technical assistance to laboratory staff in navigating and troubleshooting LIS-related issues.
  • Perform routine data backups and system checks to maintain data integrity.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, testing, and production hardware, software, and operations issues, systems upgrades, and compliance within the laboratory systems.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory supplies inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels for daily operations.
  • Assist in the procurement process by preparing and submitting supply requisitions.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation of reagents, consumables, and other supplies.
  • Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Collaborate with the Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including calibration logs.
  • Support Research Laboratory and Clinical Laboratory Managers by addressing technical and operational needs.
  • Assess reporting needs, including operational, management, and regulatory requirements
  • Identify opportunities for improving laboratory workflows and system performance.
  • Stay updated on advancements in laboratory technologies and contribute to the implementation of best practices.
  • Prevents and promptly identifies and reports system failures and takes corrective action to resolve issues
  • Review LIS interfacing and monitor systems status, system errors, system messages, transmitting, emailing, printing, auto-printing, scheduled reports, collection lists, labels, record IDs, merges, pending, backups, background job summaries, data extracts, updates, and modifications.
  • Document all specific maintenance performed for regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and monitor the security of the LIS system in collaboration with IT Manager and System Support Engineer to ensure proper functioning.
  • Checks all interfacing to and from the Clinical and Research laboratories into and out of the LIS.
  • Upload and update sample pull lists.
  • Configure and implement new Studies involving the Clinical and Research Labs LIS as required.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the laboratory team on all system/software updates and changes.
  • Recommends new technologies and tools to optimize workflow.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the laboratory’s goals and objectives

Skills

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems and technical troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments
  • Proficient communication skills, both oral and written
  • Experience in MS SQL/Oracle/Cache database management systems
  • Critical thinking skills to diagnose and solve complex problems.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Laboratory Technology, with experience in Biomedical Engineering, computer sciences, or a related field or equivalent of combination of education/experience.

Preferred Job-related Experience: At least 3-5 years of Laboratory Information Systems and Technical troubleshooting.
