Position Summary

The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will collaborate closely with the Data Management, Research Laboratory, and Clinical Laboratory Managers to ensure the smooth operation of laboratory activities by providing both technical support and expertise in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will assist in the management of lab supplies inventory, proper storage, and accurate documentation. The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will also collaborate closely with the Field Service Technician to provide hands-on support for the maintenance and repair of laboratory instruments, ensuring all equipment functions at optimal levels.

This position requires strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve instrument-related issues. The Laboratory Technical LIS Lead will contribute to the overall efficiency and reliability of the laboratory, supporting its commitment to high-quality research and diagnostic services.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in the development of a Laboratory Manual of Operation (LOM) for new studies.
  • In collaboration with the Lab Managers, configure and implement new studies in Freezerworks based on protocol-specific LOM.
  • Provide hands-on training to lab staff on LIS functionalities, including sample tracking, test result entry, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Managers and ensure staff are guided on correctly implementing study protocols in LIS, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist in addressing technical inquiries from lab staff, providing step-by-step assistance in navigating the LIS.
  • Assist in the creation of SOPs and quick guides (flow chart) for LIS usage troubleshooting and other laboratory functions.
  • In collaboration with the Lab Managers, reinforce adherence to established workflows, SOPs, and regulatory requirements in LIS usage.
  • Assist in system monitoring performance, identify areas for improvement, and coordinate with Data Management for system upgrades or repairs, etc.
  • Assist in data validation processes, including sample and aliquot lineage tracking, and ensuring data is entered accurately and completely.
  • Conduct periodic system checks, troubleshoot, ensure LIS functionality aligns with operational needs, and share findings with the Lab Managers and Data management team.
  • Maintain detailed records of system issues, resolutions, and maintenance activities in the online LIS service request log
  • Collaborate with the other lab staff to implement the pulling lifecycle
  • Assist in preparing laboratory-related incident reports and responding to monitoring visit queries.
  • Recommend improvements for LIS processes to enhance laboratory operations and research efficiency.
  • Assist in the generation of custom reports
  • Monitor and manage laboratory supplies inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels for daily operations.
  • Assist in the procurement process by preparing and submitting supply requisitions.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation of reagents, consumables, and other supplies.
  • Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Collaborate with the Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including calibration logs.
  • Support Research Laboratory and Clinical Laboratory Managers by addressing technical and operational needs.
  • Assess reporting needs, including operational, management, and regulatory requirements
  • Stay updated on advancements in laboratory technologies and contribute to the implementation of best practices.
  • Prevents and promptly identifies and reports system failures and takes corrective action to resolve issues
  • Provide guidance and direction to the laboratory team on all system/software updates and changes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the laboratory’s goals and objectives.

  • Experience with Access, SQL, and VBA programming.
  • Familiarity with using database applications or any laboratory information system is a plus

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Laboratory Technology or related field, with experience in Biomedical Engineering, computing, or a related field or equivalent of combination of education/experience.

Preferred Job-related Experience: At least 2-3 years of Laboratory Information Systems and customizable applications.
