The organisation has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Juah Town, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes

Job Title: Laboratory Technician for SOS Children’s Villages Medical Center. HE/SHE reports: Head of Diagnosis

Purpose

To facilitate & manage the running of the Laboratory department with efficiency manage all apparatuses/reagents and all appliances for the conduct & processing / analyzing medical specimen of referred diagnostic follow-up cases related cases of diagnoses and analyses.

Position Demands

Laboratory technician must have at least one year post graduate qualification with at least 2 -3 years’ experience in laboratory science/practice.

Must acquire and maintain an updated requisite state board license in the related field of practice.

She/he must conduct screening tests.

She/he must have vast knowledge in laboratory investigation (science).

She/he must be able to collect monthly data of findings

She/he must have excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English.

Computer literacy is a plus.

Working Relationship

The laboratory technician reports regularly and directly to Head of Diagnosis. She/he must respect the SOS hierarchy and must adhere to SOS employee’s Handbook and Terms of Conditions in relating to all co-workers/staff.

Principal Responsibilities

She/he must ensure that the laboratory is properly utilized & clean at all times. She/he must ensure that the laboratory has adequate stocks of the relevant

reagents to carry out lab tests.

She/he must keep record of all laboratory tests performed.

Accountability

Factors which will be taken into account are:

Observing and promoting best practice health delivery system & professional laboratory management/practice

Ensure accuracy of findings & timely reporting.

The efficiency with which the laboratory is run.

The cleanliness of the laboratory.

The effective & proficient management of the reagents and lab equipment.

Punctuality & professionalism on the job.

Upgrading

The position grade may be increased if:

Experience is gained and the lab technician significantly improves his/her performance.

  • Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination. Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT! Act without delay: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.
