JOB DESCRIPTION: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN AT SOS MEDICAL CENTER

Position: Laboratory Technician
Location: SOS Medical Center
Department: Laboratory Services
Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Job Summary:
SOS Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures across different disciplines, including biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and other specialized tests. The Laboratory Technician will ensure the accuracy and reliability of results, while adhering to SOS Children’s Villages policies related to child protection, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect specimen and Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests in the areas of biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning, calibration, and cleanliness.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
  • Process and label samples accurately to avoid mix-ups or errors.
  • Record test results clearly and accurately in the laboratory information system, ensuring proper documentation for patient care.
  • Communicate test results to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Adhere to all SOS Children’s Villages policies, including child and youth safeguarding policy, SOS CV code of conduct.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new laboratory staff or interns and students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Certification or licensure as a Laboratory Technician.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a medical laboratory or healthcare setting, with exposure to biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunology.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and laboratory management software.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with potential for shift work, including evenings or weekends.
  • Work will be primarily performed in a clinical laboratory environment.
