Save The Children International is establishing a pool of pre-selected candidates for the positions of Lead Gender Specialist in one of the country offices within West and Central Africa.

Should we secure the project, this will turn into an official recruitment. Selected candidates will be added to the recruitment process.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young peopleeitherfrequently (e.g. once a week or more)orintensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Lead Gender Specialist has overall responsibility for implementation of the gender-related activities of the upcoming Liberia Women Empowerment Project, including monitoring and ensuring program quality in line with child protection and prevention of sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) guiding principles, best practices, and minimum standards. S/he will be accountable for the field supervision, design, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of the program.

Budget Responsibilities:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Analyze, review, and provide relevant policy recommendations, including methodologies and tools to integrate gender equality at all stages of the project
  • Proven experience in SASA! based approach
  • Plan, implement, and follow up on all gender-related activities at the national-level
  • Apply gender-specific tools (SASA!) and gender-based approaches and provide technical support to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the project in the context of gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Ensure that county-level technical teams implement all activities (especially on gender-based violence and social norms) through a gender lens and achieve the project’s gender related outputs and outcomes, based on analysis and interpretation of localized socio-economic gender-based conditions
  • Ensure the collection of gender-related M&E data at national level, as well as adequate records, documentation, and reports on gender mainstreaming activities
  • Maintain close coordination with the technical teams as well as liaise with contractors/consultants and all relevant government agencies and stakeholders at national level
  • Organize review meetings with project beneficiaries, stakeholders, implementing partners and visit project sites to monitor implementation of all gender-related activities, policies and instruments
  • Provide any technical training to staff or partners as needed and appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social science, sociology, social work, gender, or related field

Experience and Skills

  • At least 15 years of relevant work experience with gender in international and community development, gender-based violence, or relevant experience
  • Familiar with international and Government of Liberia’s Gender Policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of gender dynamics and women’s empowerment challenges across African and local level context
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement on gender, including proven experience and ability to work with vulnerable groups, NGOs and CSOs across Liberia
  • Proven strong analytical skills and relevant professional experience in conducting gender assessments
  • Digital skills including MS Office and Internet.
