MAJOR DUTIES OF JOB HOLDER: Maximizing equipment availability and reliability
through most effectively using planned maintenance
Work scope:
Deliver plans and schedules for execution by the Maintenance Superintendent for all
asset reliability areas.
Ensure that Maintenance team are satisfactorily informed with regard to short and
medium term needs to maintain a safe and reliable fleet.
Within a rolling 4-week Planning window (in line With the mine operations Plan),
establish weekly and fourweekly schedules highlighting key activities and
milestones.
Using the CMMS, establish and maintain a Work Management system to provide
accurate and timely schedules, fleet history, parts / components stock holding and
availability, work order detail, wear analysis, failure prediction and trends thereof.
Close liaison with production and maintenance personnel to ensure maintenance
schedules are agreed and adhered to the Mine Plan.
In support of the Planning Superintendent, maintain close liaison with OEMs and
suppliers to ensure correct levels of stock are maintained.
Optimize maintenance effectiveness through the use of dispatch technology and
machine health analysis, promoting safe reliability as a culture.
Develop, maintain, and improve area and work standards and procedures. Lead and
coach subordinates in this process.
Develop a culture of LEAN / continuous improvement measures in each production
area and promote action around delivering targets. Lead and provide feedback on
projects.
Deputize for the Planning Superintendent during his absences in collaboration with
the Maintenance Superintendent
Provide leadership for subordinate staff, including activities such as preparing work
schedules, preparing job tasks and assigning specific duties and tasks.
Maintain awareness of the cost of asset management and seek opportunities to
enhance efficiencies.
Measure and report financial metrics around total ownership costs, life cycles and
operating spares and capital components.
Education Requirements for this position (Formal qualifications)
Essential
Bachelor degree in Engineering;
Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in the field of open pit mining equipment.
Desirable
Strong exposure to supervising maintenance activities (e.g. technical trades, stock
management).
Direct experience in establishing work management systems, CMMS’ and fleet life
cycle planning.
Experience in project management for fixed and mobile assets — construction and
maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and manage conflicting priorities.
Excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills with the ability to work
effectively with people at all levels of the organization. Strong proficiency in verbal and
written communication.
Capability to lead a team, visible leadership in health, safety, and environmental
aspects of the business.
Key experiences needed prior to taking this position
Essential
Advanced skills in CMMS and condition monitoring tools
Solid computer skills in business software such as Microsoft Office; word, Excel, Power
Point
Good communication skills oral & written in English
Sound report and presentations writing skills
Financial acumen and understanding of cost implications and costing models.
Ability to create equipment backlog regimes, update and monitor
Understanding equipment reliability and availability requirements and implications
Solid ability to plan safely for a crew of Service Technicians to complete designated
tasks. Ability to work thru others to achieve goals and objectives
Ability to perform Pareto analysis
Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations and conflicting priorities while
providing leadership and direction.
