JOB SUMMARY
Manager, Financial Planning and Operations would lead and have full oversight of operations and control of Mobile Money Financial activities, Including Treasury and Cash Management, Financial Planning, Financial Reporting & Performance management, General Ledger and Taxation for the FinCo. The Manager, Financial Planning and Operations reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is supported by Specialists & Accountants responsible for the above listed sub-functions.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Lead creation of sub-divisional strategy in line with overarching divisional goals with emphasis on client experience (internal and external).
- Ensure effective implementation of sub-divisional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, business plans and support
Staff Leadership and Management
- Source, induct, and manage talent in accordance with legislative guidelines.
- Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions where necessary
- Provide definition of roles, responsibilities, individual goals and performance objectives for the team
- Set KPIs and provide regular performance feedback through a well-defined and implemented performance review program
- Develop and implement a training plan in order to build and develop skills within the team
- Performance management of resources in accordance with HR policy and legislation where necessary
- Actively participate in leadership team and develop skills of own team
- Promote a ‘MTN centric’ and ‘partnership approach’ to develop strong relationships with other working groups and ensure adherence to Group governance
Governance
- Adhoc, Operational and Tactical Meeting
- Set up / participate in adhoc and operational meetings.
- Participate and provide input into tactical meetings.
- Report at process and functional level
Escalations
- Manage and resolve escalations that have impact on critical path of service delivery.
- Escalate issues that will result in significant time, scope, employee/customer or cost impact if not resolved
- Manage and provide solutions to issues that require formal resolution
FinCo Operational
- Set up and manage project status meetings
- Review and identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions
- Manage budgets
- Sign-off / make decisions regarding operational changes
FinCo Tactical
- Provide input on all projects initiated
- Review key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions
- Manage budget
Reporting
- Review reports due to Group and for management on a monthly basis in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organization
- Review reports on an adhoc basis on specific projects (as required)
Budgets
- Manage sub-divisional budgets in line with business objectives
- Manage project or initiative budgets in line with business objectives
Operational Delivery
Financial Operations
- Ensure establishment of robust financial accounting systems so as to provide timely, accurate and consistent inputs for management reporting
- Responsible for ensuring preparation and maintenance of financial and accounting policies & procedures for the FinCo
- Responsible for supervising the maintenance of the books of accounts as per the standard accounting practices
- Oversee FinCo site support functions. Ensure operational work related to fund mobilization, accounting, cash handling & disbursements, bookkeeping and timely payment to vendors are as per defined service levels
- Work closely with the site support team to reconcile the bills raised by the contractors / vendors / suppliers and ensure timely payments as per the contractual conditions
- Ensure minimal lead times for rendering support to the internal customers and ensure minimal process / operational breakdowns
- Responsible for inter- company relations and transactions relating to financial matters like fund transfer, etc.
- Responsible for the preparation of Financial reports and presentation of financial and non-financial performances
Treasury & Cash Management
- Ensure all e-money order have corresponding deposits in Bank, all liquidation requests are valid and e-money balance is adequate, and all adjustments are properly approved.
- Ensure guidelines, suggest corrective actions in case of process deviations and escalate issues in a timely manner
- Ensure management of cash and bank funds receipts and its approval
- Responsible for approving and sanctioning the bank related vouchers, reconciliation statements etc, as applicable.
- Coordination of internal and external audit concerning mobile money.
- Daily comparison between the transaction logs from ECW to postings made on Oracle NetSuite. Complete and accurate posting of all transactions.
- Preparation of necessary board papers for management review
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high
- Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation and business continuity
- Ensure the team is led, motivated and rewarded to achieve high performance areas
- Guide and direct suppliers and third parties in achieving Opco objectives
- Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions
- Manage team (including recruitment, on-boarding, attrition)
- Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress and maintain motivation
- Set up appropriate structure to meet departmental management objectives
- Provide an advisory function on governance and best practices in client experience
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Educations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Commerce/Finance
- Professional Qualification from a recognized Accounting Body (CA, ACCA, CPA, CFA). MBA or Postgraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is an advantage.
Experience:
- 5-8 years of work experience in financial operations and reporting with at least 4 years’ experience within the finance department of a leading telecommunications and financial organization.
