MISSION/CORE PURPOSE

  • Responsible for providing Lonestar Cell MTN-wide leadership and innovation in the Infrastructure & IP domains, to prepare IT infrastructure for future technologies and growth, in the most cost-efficient manner. The role is accountable for all aspects related to the strategic and tactical imperatives of the Infrastructure environment, by making sure the team delivers, manages, and monitors infrastructure services, operations and IP facilities within Technology division. It oversees the coordination of a team that carries out Business Continuity, Infrastructure and IP Efficiency processes and ensures the operational integrity of all changes made by these areas, to the operating environment.
  • Plan, organize, and manage infrastructure staff and/or consultants to ensure the stable and secure operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server infrastructure, data communications, and telecommunications systems as well as IP systems. The Infrastructure Manager will also manage end-user customer service and direct activities to resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all IT Service Management (ITSM) disciplines including the implementation of the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) processes and procedures, measurement and controls of process performance and service desk operations. He will also manage Service Level Agreements (SLA) and the continuous maintenance of an ITSM catalogue aligned with ITSM MTN Group strategy.
  • Manages the Data Center and related devices. Manages and designs hardware deployments and cabling inside the Data Center. Documents the network and data center processes and performs related tasks.
  • Responsible for setting up, developing and maintaining and supporting IP networks engineering solutions within an organization or between organisations.
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance and development of all ICT equipment and the provision of technical advice and support for ICT curriculum related activities together with MTN Business team.
  • Provide support in the implementation of information security plans within the organization.
  • Information security – provides the vision and strategies necessary to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organization electronic information. Provide information security support and guidance.
  • Key success factors relating to this role include reducing Capex and Opex, improved IT Infrastructure availability and Improve resilience of the current environment.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs analysis of network infrastructure needs and contributes to design of architecture, integration and installation.
  • Works with consultants to ensure that platforms provides sufficient computing resources to deliver the desired level of business performance.
  • Coordinates with other departments in order to understand and meet their requirements.
  • Evaluates network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations.
  • Checks systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures.
  • Establishes budgetary requirements for equipment replacement.
  • Establishes and controls systems access and security.
  • Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage.
  • Monitors customer service and maintains Infrastructure stability, collects and analyses Infrastructure and memory utilization, and installs and tests software upgrades.
  • Manages computer operation scheduling, backup, storage and retrieval functions.
  • Coordinates third-party maintenance for Infrastructure hardware, software and telecommunications services.
  • Develops or establishes strong relationships with service providers.
  • Negotiates and contracts with consultants, technical personnel and vendors for services and products.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation of network Infrastructure configurations and cabling layouts.
  • Develops, maintains and tests disaster recovery plans.
  • Trains users in the operations of office productivity applications.
  • Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Define and meet system performance SLAs (Service level agreement)
  • Implement up-to-date solutions across the ICT infrastructural landscape
  • Standardize Data Center builds and Power Installations, for consistency and cross-functional infrastructural alignment purposes and to reduce implementation and maintenance costs. Confirm DC designs are in line with the future vision for Group-wide technological capabilities.
  • Negotiate with strategic business partners and vendors to define service offerings, Service Level Agreements, Operational Integration, audits and Handoffs, as well as cross functional processes.
  • Creates information security strategies, both short-term and long-range, in support of organization’s goals
  • Support DoS innovation efforts from cybersecurity perspective to include: data consolidation efforts, enhanced mobile technologies, and establishment of cloud solutions as appropriate.
  • Complete and maintain documentation such a system security plans, security risk assessment, continuous monitoring and other related activities.
  • Ensures vulnerabilities are managed by directing periodic vulnerability scans of servers connected to networks.

Project and asset management

  • Provide technical project leadership
  • Plan resource timing for involvement in projects
  • Contribute to detailed project plans

Execute and monitor planned asset life cycle

  • Maintain detailed asset life cycle by working through inventory, MTTF (Mean time to failure) and technology requirements
  • Perform procurement research prior to current generation end of life by obtaining sample tests and builds of next generation technology to create migration plans
  • Work with internal stakeholders to gracefully retire production assets

Act as a catalyst for infrastructure quality change

  • Lead improvements to compute, storage and application resiliency
    • Create and move towards a tested, robust application infrastructure
    • Lead your team towards an ITSC approved RPO (restore point objective) and RTO (restore time objective) for a variety of DR (Disaster recovery) scenarios
  • Enforce corporate security policies in infrastructure and operations.
    • Work to educate employees and stakeholders to get buy in on issues of information security
    • Adopt a CISSP (Certified information systems security professional) like approach taking care of each domain impacted by infrastructure
    • Do everything above with as much elegance and as little negative business impact as possible

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Minimum B.Sc. Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications/Computer Engineering
  • MBA or MSc will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ Experience in GSM and Telecommunications with three (3) years of supervisory duties
  • Minimum 3 years Information Technology Operations, Architecture and Large-Scale Network Technology Solutions Build experience
  • Hands on experience and Exposure to the Ericsson Core Technology is an added advantage
  • Extensive experience in project management methodologies including development, implementation, monitoring and completing complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience working in a medium to large ICT / Telecommunications organization
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities under extreme deadlines with limited resources
