MISSION/CORE PURPOSE

  • To grow the product portfolio across the traditional business streams of voice and data and core VAS, and the emerging spaces of Digital. The Product Manager works closely with the CMO to design products and services that meet the evolving needs of our consumer segments.
  • To be the custodian of the entire MTN product portfolio and manage the constituents effectively at each stage of the product lifecycle
  • To drive the process of new product development working across all commercial, technical, and financial stakeholders to ensure speedy, high quality delivery of products to market
  • To be at the cutting edge of new and emerging products and services and assure MTN brings to its consumers, innovative, relevant products, and services to BRIGHTen their lives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the needs of each core Segment (Mass, Youth, HVC) with respect to voice, data and digital and develop solutions that drive customer affinity, customer delight and customer lifetime value
  • Own the product development process and assure all key milestones from concept understanding, requirements gathering, feasibility assessment, business case approval, implementation, and launch, run smoothly by working seamlessly across relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure speed-to-market in the execution of the product and propositions roadmap by working seamlessly with all stakeholders
  • Own the product roadmap across all traditional and non-traditional streams and ensure efficient launch of services by working closely with Brand and Marketing Communications and Sales and Distribution
  • Be the liaison between Marketing and Technology to translate customer insights and requirements into technically feasible products and services, working across current and new system capabilities
  • Increase the penetration of data and digital within each Segment through insights-led products and services that encourage trial and adoption
  • Increase data and smartphone penetration by working actively with external device partners, CVM, Network, Sales and Distribution, etc. to coordinate all necessary activities
  • Contribute to Lonestar Cell MTN’s value leadership in the Mass Segment by developing a compelling voice portfolio and entry-level data propositions
  • Proactively manage the product lifecycle to ensure relevant, timely interventions along the curve of each product and ensure the end-of-life and product retirement is actively enforced
  • Build and manage productive relationships with external vendors especially in the area of VAS and Digital to maximize breadth of portfolio and deepen penetration of new products and services
  • Own the Post Implementation Review process to evaluate all new products against the agreed business case; identify and explain gaps versus expectation and work with stakeholders to remedy
  • Drive overall NPS by ensuring the company leads on value perception and easy-to-use products and services measurements in-market

Leadership

  • Exhibit great stakeholder management by being a channel between CVM, Technology, Brand and Marketing Communications, Sales and Distribution to ensure effective delivery, alignment and readiness on all new product/service launches
  • Communicate the Product roadmap across all relevant levels of the organization
  • Lead the Product and Services team to effectively deliver on their respective portfolios
  • Manage team performance and development
  • Create an enabling environment and culture for team to perform aligned to MTN Global Talent Standard, Culture Operating System and Values

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, Commercial, etc.), Demography or related discipline.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in areas with strong analytical subjects (Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Science or Mathematics)
  • Post-graduate qualification is preferred

Experience

  • 5 years exposure in telecommunications working across product development and marketing, including at least 3 years of VAS, data and digital products experience
  • 2 years P&L ownership in a competitive commercial environment
  • Experience in planning, analyzing, and managing various projects across a fast-paced business environment
  • Experience at management level in a Telecommunication environment is an added advantage
