Activity Overview

The Liberia Foundational Skills Activity (LFSA) is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded program implemented by Chemonics International in Liberia. The project will work to increase the percentage of Liberian children accessing primary school and meeting government of Liberia learning standards.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

As the Margibi County Bookkeeper for the Liberia Foundational Skills Activity, the employee is responsible for the following principal duties and responsibilities in the Margibi County office:

  • Balancing accounts
  • Preparing invoices for the exports
  • Checking company bank statements
  • Preparing cash flow statements
  • Dealing with financial paperwork and filing
  • Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank account.
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy.
  • Issue financial statements.
  • Provide information to the external accountant who creates the company’s financial statements.
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Calculate and issue financial analysis of the financial statements.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain the annual budget.
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  • Process payroll in a timely manner.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting or project finance
  • Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration, or relevant field preferred.
  • Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations or experience working with donor funded programs preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office Suite applications and in accounting software.
  • Knowledge of the ABACUS system is preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

 

Level of Effort and Location

This long-term position will be based out of Margibi County, Liberia.

Supervision and Reporting

The Bookkeeper will report to and be supervised by the LFSA Accountant.
