Easy Solar is a leading solar company in West Africa, distributing and financing high-quality solar products and appliances for those with limited or no access to the conventional grid. Customers can finance their purchase over time by paying in weekly or monthly installments, with the option to pay via cash or mobile money. To date, Easy Solar has reached more than 600,000 beneficiaries, distributed through its extensive network of agents and outlets throughout Sierra Leone and Liberia.
About the Role
We are looking for a Marketing Manager to create an ambitious vision for the Easy Solar brand, as we continue to rapidly expand our presence throughout West Africa. Easy Solar’s brand is just emerging in Liberia as a trusted energy provider with high quality products and superior customer service. As marketing manager, your role is to develop the annual marketing plan for Liberia and ensure rapid expansion of visibility of the brand. Managing the annual marketing calendar, you will be in charge of developing go-to-market plans for new product launches, driving promotional campaigns around key seasonal time periods (e.g Independence Day and Festive Season) and overseeing regional marketing activity to support the sales team in the field. You will also oversee our online presence through e-commerce and social media engagement.
Your primary aim will be not only to drive sales, but to foster trust and loyalty with customers, building strong relationships that turn them into lifelong brand ambassadors.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing Planning & Team Management
- Define annual marketing plans (based on the group-level marketing strategy), with a clear calendar of activities and budget
- Submit the annual budget and control expenditure in line with marketing budget
- Set clear performance goals and targets for the department and individual team members, ensuring their professional development is taken into account and ongoing discussions about performance are had
- Measure and report performance of all marketing activities & assess against goals
Brand Management
- Serve as brand custodian, overseeing consistent adherence to Easy Solar’s brand equity, character and visual identity as outlined in our brand book
- Champion brand internally, making sure everyone at Easy Solar buys into our brand and its goals
- Ensure all sales outlets are branded and secure strategic advertising in key locations
- Manage co-branding with partners to ensure ethos and value of Easy Solar brand is maintained
- Coordinate production of collateral to implement objectives laid out in marketing plan
- Provide final oversight on all customer touchpoints with Easy Solar brand, including online and offline channels
- Manage any relationship(s) with creative agencies to deliver on brand strategy
Go-To-Market Activity
- Design and oversee the implementation of promotional campaigns based on the annual calendar, ensuring clarification for the role of online and offline channels
- Oversee the implementation of field marketing activities such as float parades, shop openings, agent openings, radio discussions to drive awareness of our existing and new product offerings
- Develop marketing campaigns for new product launches, coordinating with the Group product team that defines the annual roadmap
Digital Marketing
- Develop an online content calendar, ensuring that the heart and soul of Easy Solar is adequately captured and represented on digital channels
- Ensure digital marketing campaigns align with broader branding and marketing strategies
- Work with content manager to devise strategies to drive online traffic to the website, e- commerce platform and social media pages
- Report on the performance of online campaigns and traffic across digital channels
Required Education & Certifications
- Degree in B. Com-Marketing, B.A – Communications or B.A- Media/Journalism
- MBA-Marketing/Msc. Marketing/Brand Management (preferred)
- CIM/Digital Marketing (is a plus)
Required Experience
- +5 years marketing, brand or product management experience in a B2C firm or as marketing / management consultant (+5 years preferred)
- Track record of success managing cross functional teams
- Prior working experience in the off-grid solar sector (preferred)
- Significant prior working experience in Liberia and/or other parts of West Africa
Technical Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in English (Colloquia and local language skills are desirable)
- Ability to conduct quantitative analysis (know-how to use and interpret spreadsheets and charts)
- Experience in positioning, marketing and selling products and services to low and middle income segments in rural and/or peri-urban environments
- Knowledge of digital marketing tools and/or design software (Adobe, Coral etc.) is a plus
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the renewable energy space is a plus
