Purpose of this Position:

The Driver-Mechanic shall be responsible to manage the vehicle and safely driving all PIH staff and materials in a manner acceptable to PIH’s standards and policies and assist in maintenance & repairs of vehicles.

Position summary:
Under the supervision of the Transport Officer, provides driving support for overall day-to-day needs of the facilities operated by PIH as well as support in assisting the mechanic in maintenance related activities for vehicles in PIH Monrovia. She/he shall ensure the safety of all PIH staff, guests and authorized riders on board PIH vehicle assigned to him/her. She/he will ensure that the vehicle assigned to him/her is compliant with Traffic Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver-Mechanic will work with PIH Liberia supply Chain team in the following areas:

Driver: 60%
To perform regular driving duties for Partner In Health office

  • Ensures all passengers on board the vehicle comply with safety measures or regulations
  • Ensure the PIH Transport policy if adhered to and Liberian Traffic Rules are followed
  • Accurately complete the fuel slips, vehicle checklists, waivers and vehicle logbooks;
  • Make sure to carry a first aid kit on long-distance trips;
  • Clean his/her assigned vehicle in a timely manner;
  • Perform regular inspection/check before driving the vehicle to ensure the vehicle is road-ready;
  • Report any abnormality to Transport Officer in a timely manner for prompt action;
  • Report any incident/accidents to Transport Officer immediately; receive instructions on way forward before taking action;Mechanic 40%
  • Will work closely together with the mechanic to ensure vehicles are properly maintained/repaired:
  • Tests, services and repairs vehicles and mechanical equipment
  • Be able to inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair & maintenance work such as repair brakes, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle, steering, HVAC, and other related systems.
  • Conducts various analyses and inspections of vehicles and mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
  • Assists in the preparation of bid specifications for vehicles and mechanical equipment.
  • Advice on spare parts specifications when placing orders
  • Support to ensure quality in servicing and repairing on all PIH vehicle Support to provide timely report/assessment and recommendation on each vehicle when brought to the garage and make spot checks on the current fleet.
  • To ensure that the garage is kept clean and security measures are followed in the garage for safety work
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is written up and archived
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.Technical Competencies
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in driving;
  • Experience in driving Four-Wheel vehicles (4WD) on all-weather roads;
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team that is culturally diverse;
  • Ability to follow instructions in a clear manner.
