The European Institute of Cooperation and Development (IECD) is a French non-governmental organization founded in 1988 and operating in the field of social and economic development in partnership with local institutions. IECD’s main sectors of action are vocational training and professional integration and support to micro and small enterprises. IECD has several programs being implemented in more than 10 countries. In Liberia, IECD launched project STRIVE in July 2020. The project focuses on three main aspects: developing the TVET curricula in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, increasing the employability of trainees and providing technical training to farmers in Gbarnga and Buchanan. As part of the launch of these activities, IECD Liberia seeks to recruit a Mechanic-Driver who will participate in this development.
MISSION
Under the supervision of the Procurement and logistic Manager, the Mechanic-Driver will drive the organization’s vehicles for the purpose of fulfilling its transportation needs. This is achieved by driving organization vehicles to transport authorized personnel, assets and run other organization-wide errands. She/he will also be responsible of manual repair of the vehicle and other logistic tasks such as collecting quotations, filling in the Vehicle log sheets. She/he can also be asked to help on basic maintenance.
1) Driving
– Ensure airport pick-up and drop-off duties and that vehicle is cleaned and road worthy
– Transport passengers, goods, and courier items, as requested and within IECD and nationwide security and legal requirements.
– Logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes and greasing
– Obeying all traffic regulations, including wearing seat belts; complete logbook as required
– To always ensure the safety maintenance of vehicles, undertaking regular checks of safety materials such as the first aid kit, spare tyre, spare tool kits (bulbs, flashlight etc) assigned over to the driver each morning.
– Ensure that basic maintenance checks are routinely carried out – oil, water, windscreen washers, tyres) and that problems are raised immediately and resolve by the Mechanic-Driver.
– To ensure that the vehicle’s documentation is in place and readily accessible, if need be, to raise to the Logistics Manager any missing documentation that is due to expire and ensure its immediate replacement • To ensure your own driving licence is valid and always carried
– To maintain the required communications schedule whilst in the field
– In the event of an accident to follow IECD procedures where possible, using initiative to safeguard injured people, and staff travelling in the vehicle, whilst informing the designated manager/appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
– To ensure that no unauthorized goods, or passengers are carried in an IECD vehicle, and to ensure that any authorized non-IECD personnel have signed the disclaimer, discharge of responsibility’s form before being transported.
2) Mechanical role
– To conduct regular manual services on the vehicle (changing brake shoe and brake pad, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, etc) .
– To conduct regular assessment of the vehicles’ condition and repair or recommend the way forward.
– To follow up on the vehicle while undergoing service at the garage.
EXPECTED PROFILE
– Qualities and skills:
– Excellent knowledge and experience in performing driving duties for NGO or Private Institution
– Good knowledge of driving rules and road connections in urban and rural parts of the country
– Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressures to achieve organizational objectives.
– Ability to work in team with people from different backgrounds
– Ability to be proactive and take initiative, including good organization and planning skills
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good familiarity with the area of operation.
– Good understanding of protocol in some areas of operation (such as airports).
– Experience in driving Landcruiser or 4-Wheel drive in a rough terrain.
– Mechanical knowledge is required.
Education: Must be able to read with comprehension and write clearly. High School diplomats are an added advantage. A Valid Driver’s license is required.
Experience: 5-years’ experience in performing driving duties with mechanical knowledge for NGO or Private Institution.
CONDITIONS
Starting Date: June 1, 2025
Location: Monrovia with regular travel to Gbarnga, Buchanan and any other field locations
