SOS Children’s Villages International works through member associations in 136 countries and territories worldwide.

SOS Children’s Villages Liberia has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s need and concerns in Liberia since 1981. We focus our work on children without parental care and children at risk of losing parental care and their communities. The organisation has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Juah Town, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes

Job Title: Medical Doctor for SOS Children’s Villages Monrovia Liberia Medical Center. HE/SHE reports: Medical Center Manager. Position Summary The Medical Doctor is responsible to

 Promote and provide good health care services to all patients, including SOS children and Staff, through proper examinations and tests to diagnose patients’ conditions.  Serve as the allopathic physician to boost the image of SOS Liberia  Prescribe treatment and medications to attempt to heal any illnesses or injuries based on findings from examinations and tests  Provide consultation as General practitioner and pediatrician  Provide consultation as the often first start of every patient visit  Routinely work in teams; with nurses and aides assisting them in well-lit work locations

Position Demands  Minimum of 5 –10 years’ experience as a Medical Doctor with proven track record working in a wide variety of medical setting like long-term facility or hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and any health care institutions;  Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Medicine from a recognized University. Advanced study or specialization in various medical fields is an added advantage for aspiring candidates.  Good communication skills (Excellent written and verbal)  Medically aware of updates in medical terminologies and procedures and in touch with the new trends in medicine  Highly responsible and sensitive with a good sense of humor  Knowledge of hospital facility management systems and procedures  Demonstrates a wide range of medical knowledge  Comprehensive experience in clinical assessment  Good Analytical and Conceptualized Skills  Commitment to health and safety requirement  A highly enthusiastic personnel with strong professional ethics  Working knowledge of the use of hospital digitalized system, printers, scanners, photocopiers, etc.  Goal-oriented with an excellent time management skill and the ability to prioritize work  Attention to detail and problem solving skills  Honest, hardworking, reliable and punctual.  High level of respect for confidentiality of all information concerning each patient.  Ability to supervise often difficult staff, effectively  Willingness to take on additional duties from time to time as duty demands  Ability to work in a team

Working Relationship  Reports directly to the Medical Center Manager  Work closely with the administrative team and the Human Resources Mangement Team.  Supervise Nurses, Lab Technicians, physician Assistants, etc.

Child Safeguarding The Post holder may be required to be in regular contact with children or have access to children and/or young people. As part of these responsibilities, you will support the child safeguarding systems in an effort to promote a culture of keeping children safe; by ensuring that you  Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.  Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT!  Act without delay: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.  Involve the right people at the right time: CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager. For better support, kindly familiarize yourself with the Child Safeguarding Team.

Principal Responsibilities  Diagnose patients through evaluating their signs and symptoms that they are experiencing.  Carry out ample amount of medical research in order to come up with appropriate solution whenever the diagnoses and preliminary testing are not adequate to know the patient’s ailment.  Note down every symptom and signs that are manifested by of the patient as well as any progress.  Make and ensure patient(s) record with the history of illnesses as well as histories in treatment regimen are recorded, immediately.  Contribute to physician effectiveness by identifying patient care issues that must be addressed  Inform Medical Center Manager about any problems or discrepancies that might arise concerning patients or the staff of the facility  Assess patients’ health and demands and aim to provide quick and lasting solution  Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies and protocols  Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with SOS procedures, rules, and regulations  Review patients‘ medical history, interpret diagnostic test such as x-ray, ultrasounds, EKGs and record notes/data in acceptable medical charts/forms  Make medical diagnoses and institute therapy or refer patient(s) to specialists who focus on specific medical areas, such as anesthesiology, cardiology, psychology and internal medicine, based on the needs of the patient (s) for appropriate health care  Work long and unpredictable hours dictated by the needs of the patient(s).  Travel amongst various locations, such as office, hospital and clinic, in order to provide patient care.  Prescribe medications to the patient(s) after determination of the patient’s health condition and medical history  Provide counselling and advise patient(s) on compliance to therapeutic regimen (including diet, hygiene and preventive care) and things that should be avoided and other risk factors that may trigger the disease or re occurrence of the disease  Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Medical Center Manager
