General Objectives of the Research Team:

Implementing the public health/epidemiological research in the mission according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures to contribute to mitigating the burden of maternal and perinatal deaths where MSF is present.

Accountabilities:

This position is different from the typical duties of a midwife working in a health facility or other places but to join the study team as a professional in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) activities.

  • Examining administrative procedures and documents, analysing routine data for monitoring purposes, collection and analysis of medical statistics, and reporting of SRH activities
  • Participating in implementing research protocols and methodology including patient inclusion criteria, data management processes, and participation in in-person interviews as part of the study team
  • Ensuring patients included in the research have freely given their consent to participate and have received the correct information in a format they can comprehend
  • Supporting interviewees (patients, health workers) to be always comfortable during the sessions
  • Reviewing data collection and undertaking analysis as appropriate, reporting on a regular basis to the functional referent about study progress and any relevant information for the mission/project
  • Participating in report development and draws appropriate conclusions supported by the results
  • Participating in the development of evidence-based recommendations

Skills and experiences:

  • At least five-year experience as a midwife
  • Has skills/experiences of administrative procedures, monitoring and analysis of medical statistics, and reporting of SRH activities
  • Has rich experiences of cooperation with doctors and nurses
  • Has rich understanding of local social-cultural contexts and languages. S/he will be an interpreter and cultural mediator.
  • Has rich knowledge and experience of health system of Liberia, especially in SRH
  • Has field experience with MSF or other NGOs (desirable).

Education:

Midwifery recognized qualification essential.

Knowledge:

  • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Online information management including cloud storage service, information-sharing platform, etc. is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Patient-Centred Care is desirable.
  • Active listening and interviewing are asset.
