Our client, a technical network company located in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Liberia, and Togo that builds metro fiber and Wi-Fi networks is seeking qualified applications that meet the requirements stated below. Function Name: Technical, Network Deployment (NetDeploy)

Role Name: Network Engineer

Role:

The person plans and executes both core, aggregation and access network deployment working with both internal and external stakeholders. He/She will develop and manage project schedules, identify risks and clearly communicate them to project stakeholders, define problem-solving and risk mitigation strategies, and facilitate conflict resolution through the full cycle of deployment.

In addition, the person will provide network maintenance support to the project and will be a member of a network operations and maintenance team. He/she will need to anticipate and meet operational requirements while ensuring the smooth running of the operation. The person will work hand in hand with the Help Desk Engineer and the Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design and document new and existing networks, including but not limited to creation and evaluation of high level and low-level design documents, testing and implementation new network solutions, analyzing existing network services and providing input on improvements and ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of designed networks with a cost and resource focus
  • Support the business development team with technical input for building a business case, including but not limited to engagement with customer technical staff to define their requirements, developing a fiber route map, incorporating requirements into the overall network design, attending customer meetings for new countries, performing desktop analysis of data, working with the Business Development team on new product design
  • Conduct sourcing, vendor selection and contracting for active equipment, including but not limited to development of request for proposals, managing vendor engagement, performing evaluation and selection of proposals and

assisting in vendor contracting by ensuring the required technical requirements have been captured in the contract

  • Project Management of the delivery of the core metro and backbone networks, including but not limited to purchase of equipment, configurations and validation of equipment, testing and commissioning for all the core elements, managing the vendor to ensure delivery as per contract, managing exceptions and communicating issues and risks to all stakeholders, seamlessly turning over completed network to Operations team and documenting lessons learnt
  • Coordinate with customer technical team and other local stakeholders on identification and acquisition of suitable sites for deployment of equipment at core, aggregation and repeater sites.
  • Manage and define tools for network planning and delivery
  • Write, edit, organize and proofread technical documentation for new network buildouts Conduct/facilitate training on advanced networking protocols, technologies and vendor specific equipment knowledge
  • Configuration of the new customer CPE and corresponding configuration on the core network. At proactively to ensure a loop free and secured network. Inform line manager and document network resourcing usage.
  • Any other technical work as deemed necessary by the employer and line manager.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computing, Telecommunications Engineering or related qualification (in lieu of degree, 3 years relevant work experience).
  • 5+ year work experience in network design or planning or deployment role in an operator environment
  • Fundamental understanding of Network Design principles and general program management Superior network routing protocol troubleshooting skills in all of BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and MPLS. A good understanding of Layer 1 through Layer 3 network services and technologies, including Dark Fiber, DWDM, SONET/SDH, Ethernet, IP and Wireless systems

Must have fiber splicing experience.

  • Experience with data center, POP infrastructure, OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction
  • Any network certification is an added advantage.

Line of Reporting:

The Network Engineer will report to the NetOps & Deployment Supervisor
