Job Title: Nutrition Officer(x1)

Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to facilitate and supervise the implementation of the nutrition specific activities of the project ‘Improving Food and Nutrition Security through Sustainable Agricultural Interventions’ funded by the Latter Day Saints. This is a position that requires collaborating and working very closely with communities, the local Health facilities, Community Health Assistants, Trained Traditional Midwives, and other community based health workers, community formal and informal structures, and government authorities. Specifically, the Nutrition Officer will be responsible for implementation of the project in selected communities within target Buchanan City. It is a position responsible for linking and activating key stakeholders for young children’s nutrition, in close collaboration with field staff from other ongoing Concern programmes.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Prepare weekly and monthly activity plans, identifying and timely requesting the resources required for effective implementation of programme activities; Work closely with local Health facilities and community-based health workers (TTM, CHPs and traditional healers), other community structures, and local government authorities, ensuring community orientation about the project, sensitization, mobilization, education, and coaching of beneficiaries to ensure effective implementation and active participation in, ownership and sustainability of project activities; Ensure that the implementation of the project’s activities promotes capacity building and collaboration of community based health workers, and health facility staff; in particular, ssupport the development of community health stakeholders’ skills (CHAs and TTMs) so that they are better equipped in liaising for delivery, monitoring and management of the nutrition commodities; In collaboration with the local government authorities, and local implementing partners where applicable, organize and facilitate required trainings and/or learning sessions for the empowerment of participants at all levels, with the support of other members from the programme team when relevant; Provide technical support and supportive supervision to IFANSI programmes’ field based staff to conduct learning sessions with Mother Groups on new/improved nutrient-based complementary food to young children, including hands-on participatory cooking demonstrations using recipe book, ENA boolet for better food diversity and food hygiene; Participate in research studies, analysis or surveys, particularly relating to behaviors for improved health, hygiene and nutrition and support the development of effective strategies to increase the practice of the behaviour in order to achieve intended program outcomes; Collaborate with and support Systems/logistics to ensure successful, transparent and accountable procurement and distribution of project inputs.

Mainstreaming Gender, HIV/AIDs, and other cross-cutting issues:

Support contextual analysis of gender, HIV/AIDs and environmental issues, including hygiene and sanitation promotion, and ensure they are adequately mainstreamed in all activities; Undertake activities in line with the programme objectives, to promote sustainable behavioural change, as relates to gender and environmental practices that inhibit equitable and sustainable development of the communities.

Participatory Monitoring and Learning:

Ensure that project participants, and their local structures actively participate in, and undertake monitoring activities in order to address real local needs. Ensure that best practices and success stories are identified, documented and shared with relevant staff; Undertake routine monitoring of programme inputs, activities and outputs to facilitate identification of implementation gaps and keep project fit for purpose.

Reporting and Accountability:

Prepare regular field activity reports, highlighting achievements and challenges, and submit to the Program coordinator in a timely manner. Ensure all work done with communities is carried out in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to local culture, community needs and gender equality; Ensure that project participants and stakeholders have clear information about the project activities as appropriate and relevant to them, and of the mechanisms for feedback and complaint; Keep and maintain up-to-date register of project participants; Adhere at all times to Concern’s policies, guidelines and standards; Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s Code of Conduct and Associated policies (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management; Collect and timely report verbal complaints and feedback from individuals and communities, for ensuring adequate response in line with Complaint and Response Mechanism policy; Contribute to ongoing security management and planning as necessary; Actively participate in any emergency response if called upon to do so; Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the CD, PD or line manager.

Experience & Qualification:

Diploma from a recognized institution, with a bias in any of the programmatic areas (Nursing, Environmental Health, Public Health and Sociology) At least 2 years of practical experience in implementing a community based donor-funded programmes within Liberia with NGO(s) or government in rural areas;

Practical knowledge of nutritional care, health services delivery and health promotion is essential; strong capacity to conduct interactive and engaging training sessions in the above-mentioned areas; good understanding of nutritional products’ use and their supply chain;

Technical skills and competencies in implementing nutrition, health delivery, and health promotion, including sanitation and hygiene activities; Computer skills, including hands-on use of the internet, Word, and Excel packages.
