PRIMARY FUNCTION OF JOB (Mission)
The Onsite Oil Lab Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining various testing equipment. Our lab tests
used oils, coolants, grease, and fuels for Mining and Plant equipments. The lab technician should be able to tell to the
customer the condition of the fluid and the machine it came out of. The result should be available for the customer in a
reasonable turnaround time, in the next two hours after the sample have been dropped at the lab, to allow the
maintenance crew to make decision on critical components which failure might affect the cost and productivity on the
company. The individual working at this position must perform each essential duty satisfactorily, carrying out laboratory
analyses, implement the necessary means and procedures to ensure they are carried out properly and monitored in
accordance with quality procedures and in compliance with requirements (health and safety, etc.).
MAJOR DUTIES OF JOB HOLDER Main Responsibilities. (Mention the differentiating factors, end products
and accountabilities where no signoff is needed)
Under the supervision of the Onsite Oil Lab Supervisor, the responsible of this position will assume the following main
responsibilities:
✓ Carry out analyses in accordance with operating procedures
✓ Ensure Samples are free from any contamination
✓ Receiving and processing oil samples to analyze, make determination, and report the data to the
appropriate recipients.
✓ Interpret the laboratory analysis results
✓ Ensure the traceability of laboratory analysis results
✓ Procedural preparation of chemical solutions and standards.
✓ Consumable inventory and stocking.
✓ Check the use by dates and the non-alteration of laboratory reagents and products
✓ Analyze daily samples with in a 12-hour period (in coordination with other shifts).
✓ Frequent use of computer software (Outlook, Excel, TC Navigator, Win Lab, etc)
✓ Verbal and electronic communication of test results to appropriate parties.
✓ Basic equipment cares, maintenance and cleaning, including calibration and standardization.
✓ Strong commitment to quality and integrity.
✓ Exercise laboratory safety practices.
✓ Ensure the accuracy, precision, and integrity of the results generated by the laboratory through
participation in proficiency testing programs, audits of test procedures, quality meetings and follow-up on
questionable and out-of-control data.
✓ Conduct all testing procedures in compliance with the divisional QA/QC policies and procedures as
documented in the division’s Quality Assurance Manual (QAM) and associated Standard Quality
Procedures (SQP).
✓ Conduct all testing procedures in conformance with the ISO/IEC 17025 Testing Laboratory Standard, as
applicable.
✓ Conduct all safety and hazardous waste management activities in accordance with the ALS Tribology
divisional Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) compliance policies and procedures, to include, but
not limited to, the division’s Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP), Hazardous Waste Management (HWM)
Standard Safety Procedure (SSP), Contingency Plan.

Education Requirements for this position (Formal qualifications)
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Chemistry, Laboratory Science or related field with experience in Oil analysis.
• – Proficient in MS Office suite projects and Outlook email..
Key experiences needed prior to taking this position
Essential
• Have a minimum of 4 to 6 years of professional experience in Laboratory environment and Mining platforms.
• Working knowledge of computer software
• Basic Mathematical skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details.
• Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends.
• The ability to analyze lab data and understand the impact of the result on the compartment and be able to give a clear
explanation or the interpretation of the results.
• Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical components.

• Show speed in judgment;
• demonstrate flexibility of mind and ability to adapt

• Have the required competence in the use of Microsoft Office products (Project, Excel, Word, Access, Visio) and
other software that can make your services easier.

• Be able to consult catalogues and service manuals (computer or not)
• Documentation is written entirely in English, the knowledge of English is a benefit.
• Have a good level of oral communication, written in French and English which will be a plus.
