Africabio is seeking a Phlebotomist, Laboratory Technologist/Technician, or Registered Nurse that has knowledge in drawing of blood and other tissues or fluid from patients for testing. He/she will also be responsible for bringing all blood and specimen samples to the laboratory from the various health facilities or private individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Respond to requests in an efficient manner.
  • Coordinate daily activities based on schedule provided by Management.
  • Identify patients and their personal information using documents provided by facility or Management.
  • Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
  • Reassure patients and help them relax. Answer questions and provide useful information.
  • Draw blood from patients using sterilized needles, vials and other equipment.
  • Label vials with patient names, location and dates.
  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples.
  • Keep accurate records on fluid specimens, tests and schedules.
  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working and practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.
  • Transport all specimen samples directly to the laboratory and follow directions of submitting and processing.
  • Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
  • Keep your phlebotomy cart or station well-organized at all times.
  • Must observe ethics and professionalism at all times.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Licensed Phlebotomist, Lab Tech or Registered Nurse
  • Experience with effective phlebotomy techniques.
  • Understanding of proper patient identification methods
  • Knowledge of biosafety and health care requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material.
  • Ability to use computers to enter information
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Pays attention to details.
  • Ability to connect with various types of patients (such as children, elderly, pregnant women) and make them feel comfortable.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Licensed to drive a motorcycle or automobile.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of all road traffic and transport laws and possess a valid driver’s license.
