Role Summary

The Principal of More Than Me Academy (MTMA) is charged with leading a Pre-K-12 school serving approximately 300 + female students. MTMA is a tuition-free school and the majority of students come from West Point and the Central Monrovia environs. The Principal is responsible for ensuring that the Academy is an effectively run school with excellent academics, sound safety and a respectful and caring school culture. This role reports to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with whom to be a designee.

In general, the duties of the Position to be filled by the Principal shall encompass the following:

∙ Develop an annual work plan and school calendar; determine an annual budget and hiring needs;

∙ Conduct rigorous staff vetting and assessment; communicate effectively with parents and students;

∙ Ensure MTMA has strong foundational systems to run an effective and organized school including: student registration, student attendance, and teacher attendance, record keeping;

∙ Consistently implement organizational policies to promote fairness, integrity, and transparency;

∙ Develop and encourage understanding of key school policies such as the Student Handbook;

∙ Conduct regular meetings with staff and parents to develop a shared understanding of school expectations;

∙ Oversee building maintenance and appropriate use of school assets; oversee the operational staff including cooks, janitors, and security;

∙ Oversee the work of the Vice Principal for Instruction to ensure that teachers are well prepared, utilize diverse pedagogies to engage students, and hold high academic expectations;

∙ Ensure that academic resources and systems such as curriculum, school schedule, teacher assignments, grading methodology;

∙ Conduct classroom observations, review of student work and assessments to ascertain the quality of teaching and learning;

∙ Regularly communicate school values and behavioral expectations to students and staff; ∙ Monitor behavior and provide reminders and corrections as necessary; ∙ Create a warm and caring environment where every student feels important and respected;

∙ Serve as a role model to teachers for how to appropriately handle student misbehavior without humiliation, aggression or abuse;

∙ Ensure that disciplinary consequences follow a positive discipline approach that emphasizes education, not humiliation; set and enforce clear expectations about

Page 1 of 2 consistent student supervision; develop an annual work plan for staff professional development;

∙ Develop and deliver professional development workshops to teachers and other staff; ∙

Solicit external support to provide additional guidance to teachers;

∙ Ensure each of the school staff has a clear working knowledge of the child protection policy and safeguarding practices;

∙ Report any suspicions or allegations of abuses of students through the reporting pathway; ∙ Report and issue disciplinary actions for any infraction of the child protection policy by school staff;

∙ Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Safe Guarding Director/designee, and or the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications:

∙ Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education (ECE/Primary/Secondary focus); or educational leadership. Master’s in Education is an added advantage,;

∙ 3-5 years of experience working as a principal or administrator in a school setting; ∙

Experience in staff management, development, and training; and

∙ Have clear leadership abilities which help shape a vision of academic success for all students, etc.
