BRAC Liberia launched in 2008 with programs in Microfinance, Small Enterprise Development, Agriculture,
Poultry and Livestock, Health, Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescent (ELA) Girls, Psychosocial and
Survival Support now impacting the lives of over 560,000 Liberians.
BRAC Liberia is searching for competent, dynamic and self-motivated person to fill the positions of Program
Manager- Agriculture Food Security & Livestock.
Position 1: No. of Vacancies: One (1)
Job Title : Program Manager- Food Security & Livestock
Tenure : 1 (one) year

PURPOSE
Reduce hunger and poverty in Liberia by improving the productivity and income of poor small
holder farmers through capacity building, technical support, knowledge sharing and access to high
quality seed of improved food crop varieties through demonstration and field visit
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. BRAC SAFEGUARDING: I commit to implement the BRAC safeguarding policy and will work to:
A). Establish a safeguarding culture across all level of the Programme by implement the
safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
B). Be responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access
to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding
policy and procedure.
C). Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident take place,
encourage other to do so.
2. Lead the program Design, Planning, Budgeting and implementing
3. Provide technical and business oriented services to the volunteer/promoters to create an
Enabling environment where farmers can get the advantage of Income Generating Activities
(IGA).
4. Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders like the government sector (MOA, CARI, and
Africa Rice) for production, processing and marketing of agriculture products & development for
the sector.
5. Maintain good relation and coordination with local and international NGOs for better
collaboration for agriculture development
6. Liaise with Donor Agencies at the National and International levels for agriculture sector
developments
7. Ensure integrated development of Adaptive Research and Seed testing farm as per suggestion
and sector development and guideline of Program anchor
8. Ensure research and trial activities of new varieties of rice, vegetable, maize, cassava etc. that
are adaptable to climate change
9. Oversee the implementation of the program in coordination with other programs in a holistic
approach.
10. Ensure value based behaviors among team members
11. Ensure capacity building of staff
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
➢ Achieve program activities according to the implementation plan
➢ Having quality staff in the team
➢ On time procurement of required materials
➢ Ensured promoter selection and training
➢ Develop future leaders especially among national staff
MAJOR CHALLENGES
1. Complexity of Land tenure system & ownership of farmers and out growers
2. Brushing & cleaning of land is expensive and unavoidable for small holder farmers
3. Poor marketing of agriculture products & post handling facilities
4. High operational cost for undeveloped transport infrastructure
5. Acute decency of farmers on NGO support
EXPERIENCE:
1. MSc in Agronomy and or Seed Science Technology, certification in Gender and Agri-value
chains
2. At least 3 years managerial experience.
3. At least 5 years of experience in different Agriculture Development sector for improvement
of livelihood of poor and marginal farmers through implementing integrated Agriculture and
off farm intervention. NGO experience is an added advantage
4. Direct involvement in the agriculture production and marketing related intervention for small
holder farmers through Market development approaches.
5. Experience in handling teams of multi-dimensional programs
6. Development of training materials for facilitating marketing and other technical training
related to agriculture production, processing and marketing as well as organize, coordinate
and facilitate training for staff and farmers both of partner organization and project.
7. Excellent working experience in establishing effective linkage with different inputs/ service
provider, private sector, Government and NGO Officials.
