The AFSL program aims to reduce food insecurity and malnutrition in Liberia through developing the capacity of smallholder farmers on climate smart agriculture practices, to build resilience while developing nutrition-sensitive agriculture and strengthening the market systems of small and medium entrepreneurs. AFSL program has reached approximately 312,500 people and enabled 62,500 agriculture and poultry and livestock SHFs to increase their income and resilience and improve their nutrition outcome.

BRAC Liberia is an implementing partner on the WFP funded integrated Food Security (IFS) Project. This is a seven-months (January-July 2025) activity that will target Supporting local women and youth develop and enhance their technical capacity for alternative livelihood, including vegetable gardening, low-land rice farming to promote livelihood in addition to women involvement in VSLAs. The project will work to increase Agriculture Assets Revenue and Livelihoods for Communities in Grand Cape Mount, Nimba, Lofa, Grand Bassa and Bong counties. IFS Project will emphasize livelihood activities to build the resilience of participants to seasonal shock.

BRAC Liberia is seeking applications from competent, dynamic and self-motivated individuals to fill the position of one Project Coordinator to support the attainment of the Integrated Food Security project activity project goals and objectives by directly implementing and providing technical advice and support as appropriate.

Purpose

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of the Integrated Food Security project at county level. She/he will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day implementation of the project activities in the assigned area, supporting Program Assistant and other project staff, organizing training and workshops, and working with the project colleagues to implement work plans, and reports. project Coordinator reports to the Program Manager

This position will be based in the Country Office.

Key Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Support in the Identification and final selection of project participants.
  • Support program assistants to organize and conduct all training and refreshers training for participants (VSLA and farmer groups) as per plan.
  • Provide capacity building training for program assistants and agro-entrepreneurs, with emphasis on developing women and youth entrepreneurs.
  • Setting up agriculture, related demo plots at county level to showcasing best practices.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with PAs at the area/county level to verify agro-enterprises, VSLA at branch/district/county level.
  • Follow up on seeds and agriculture tools distribution and nutrition awareness campaigns and other village meetings at the branch level.
  • Carry out regular site visits and check all registers and documents of PAs and entrepreneurs..
  • Linking farmers with value chain actors including processors, traders, entrepreneurs, government counterparts etc. through business development and market linkage) workshop.
  • Support the development of learning materials (e.g. training module, guidelines, flip chart, leaflet/booklet, policy/strategy papers, etc.) required for IFS project.
  • Review training modules, manuals and materials (leaflets and flip charts) on climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices, nutrition sensitive agriculture, improved livestock rearing techniques and entrepreneurs’ skills.
  • Prepare a comprehensive capacity building plan; roll out technical training and capacity building activities to project front line staff, CSPs, partners, farmers and other stakeholders.
  • Regular visit of project site and provide them with technical advice for better agriculture, and livestock management.
  • Maintain good relationships and coordination with the other implementing partners.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual project progress reports and success stories of the project and submission to Program Manager.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the management.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the project’s goals on safeguarding implementation
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment at county level.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do the same.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/ Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)/ Agricultural Economics/Livelihood Development or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Agriculture, Poultry and Livestock program preferably in an INGO
  • Proven experience in identifying agricultural (agriculture, poultry & livestock) production, extension & marketing related problems for smallholder agriculture and livestock farmers.
  • Excellent working experience in establishing effective linkage with other partners, Government and NGO officials, experience in handling teams of multi-dimensional programs;
  • Strong training facilitation skills, communication skills with different stakeholder management, Report writing skills.
  • Excellent skill in commonly used programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Internet Applications and overall general concept on computing and technology.
  • Direct involvement in the agriculture production and marketing related intervention for smallholder farmers through market development approaches;
  • Development of training materials for facilitating marketing and other technical training related to agriculture production, processing and marketing as well as organize, coordinate and facilitate training for staff and farmers both of Partner Organization and Project;
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with international development organization policies and procedures, reporting specifically UN.

 

Required Skills, Competencies & Knowledge:

  • Facilitate technical support to smallholder farmers, and other value chain actors.
  • Significant exposure to agriculture, livestock, VSLA, social business and development programs in Liberia.
  • Proven track record of working with farmer organizations/ cooperatives and challenging field locations (both rural and urban).
  • Computer skills: Microsoft office word, excel etc.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure and prioritize with multiple competing demands.
  • Familiarity with BRAC’s work and/or working experience on livelihood and food security programs.

  • Ability to travel frequently within targeted project areas in Liberia
  • Exceptional interpersonal, management, facilitation and communication skills
  • Excellent writing, and oral communication skills in English
