CRS began working in Liberia in 1957, with a permanent country program office opening in 1990 to provide life-saving relief in response to emergencies and to address issues of chronic poverty and injustice through innovative and sustainable development programs. CRS Liberia has since developed programs in peacebuilding, youth livelihoods, health systems strengthening, and urban water, sanitation, and hygiene. Key partners include the Catholic Church and local faith-based organizations.

Job Summary:

Safely operate vehicles to ensure the safety of all passengers, pedestrians, other drivers and the vehicle in town and on field missions. Conduct and document Vehicle Daily Inspection Checks. Document legibly and accurately all travel in the Vehicle Log Sheet. Have passengers sign Log Sheet after each trip. Signal actual or potential problems and / or threats to the Head Driver/Mechanic or Fleet Officer. Keep vehicles clean inside and out, and ensure passengers do the same. Secure the vehicles when not in use. Perform minor maintenance and repair as required. Be available as needed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Vehicle Management

  1. Responsible for the routine daily checks of vehicle fleet and submit reports to the ICT/FLEET Officer
  2. Enter & confirm recordings of vehicle logs daily.
  3. Monitor fuel levels and recommends refueling as required
  4. Maintain fuel log sheets
  5. Report vehicle condition and replacement of tires based on CRS disposal and replacement policy
  6. Keep vehicles clean and properly maintained by performing regular washing, cleaning and vehicle maintenance
  7. Report any accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to management.

Vehicle Safety

  1. Ensure defense driving always
  2. Ensure vehicles are fully maintained (serviced and repaired) for errands and treks
  3. Drivers comply to road traffic regulations all the time

Vehicle Use Tracking

  1. Apply criteria for personal use of vehicles and ensure proper documentation to ensure reimbursement.
  2. Maintain a procedure for keeping track of vehicle usage

Vehicle Maintenance

  1. Monitor CRS vehicles to ensure regular servicing
  2. Verify work done on repair/maintenance of vehicle and recommend for payment
  3. Ensure all CRS vehicles are kept clean and in road worthy condition
  4. Carry out daily vehicle maintenance – clean vehicles, check engine oil, gauges, brakes, brake and battery fluid etc.
  5. Diagnose mechanical faults in vehicles and recommend repairs
  6. Ensure proper utilization of vehicle spare parts and maintain report

Documentation & Reporting

  1. Conduct daily vehicle checks and maintain the register
  2. Maintain all vehicle related files
  3. Maintain daily physical inventory of other vehicle appliances (e.g. first Aid Kits, spare wheel, tool kit, emergency contact numbers, Accident guide, jerk, wheel puller, valid insurance cover, license & road tax, etc.)
  4. Report any damages done to the vehicles at the immediate appropriate time
  5. Maintain immediate reporting of all accidents to the ICT/FLEET Officer

Other responsibilities

  1. Assists in collecting and delivering mails, newspapers or documents when required
  2. Deliver checks to vendors/suppliers and Finance with banking
  3. Drive CRS staff, visitors/guests within and outside the CRS Liberia, Monrovia Office.
  4. Other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Internal: All CRS staff and visitors within and outside the country

External: All CRS Partners, Heads of NGOs and Government Ministries and UN Body Representatives

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 School Leaving Certificate
  • Good working knowledge of the English Language
  • Reasonable writing skills
  • Certificate in Motor Mechanic will be added advantage
  • At least five-years work experience in a similar position
  • Understand and adhere to CRS policy on use of CRS vehicles
  • Mature and diplomatic personality with clear demonstration of tolerance, flexibility and initiative
  • Healthy and good physical standing/appearance/vision
  • Planning and organization skills with a sense of commitment and dedication
  • Effective inter-personal communication skills;
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Possess a Liberian Identity Card and a valid drivers’ license
  • Ability to work in a team

Required Foreign Language:

Ability to speak French will be an added advantage for this position.

 

Required Travel:

The position requires driving both within and outside the CRS Liberia Monrovia Office

 

Physical Environment/Working Environment:

Job duties and responsibilities will be performed in a normal office environment, and countryside (i.e. during up-country treks). He/she should be physically strong and undergo annual eye test and be certified.
