Who we are:

medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s rights organization working in Liberia. Our Organization offers support to women and girls affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV). Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors.

Project Background

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MGCSP), is implementing the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) with financing from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group. Medica Liberia is part of a consortium led by Plan International, serving as the Lead Service Provider.

medica Liberia is co-implementing the SASA! Together component of the project, which aims to transform gender norms, prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG), and empower women. This globally recognized methodology facilitates behavior change by addressing power dynamics and social norms related to gender inequality and gender-based violence (GBV).

Note: Hiring is contingent upon the availability of funding and the project’s approval for implementation.

Position Title: Project Manager

Open Position: 1

Reports to: Head of Programs

Duty Station: Montserrado County, with frequent travels to counties of operation

Job Summary:

The Project Manager will oversee the implementation of the project, ensuring alignment with the project goals, compliance with the Ministry of Gender Children Social Protection, World Bank and Plan International standards, and efficient delivery of outputs. The Project Manager will provide strategic leadership, manage the project team, and coordinate with stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the project work plan, ensuring all activities align with project objectives.
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the World Bank, Plan International, other consortium members, and local communities, to establish and maintain effective partnerships.
  • Manage the project budget and ensure full compliance with donor financial requirements.
  • Supervise and provide support to the project team, including community mobilizers and the Learning and Assessment team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting, including progress reports and financial updates, to the donor and Medica Liberia management.
  • Monitor project implementation, identify potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Represent the project at relevant meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Oversee communication and publicity efforts to highlight project activities and achievements.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Project Management, Social Work, Gender Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing donor-funded projects, preferably with a focus on women’s empowerment.
  • Strong leadership, financial management, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with World Bank-funded projects and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with the SASA! Together approach or similar methodologies focused on addressing power dynamics and gender norms.
  • Expertise in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), including data collection, analysis, and reporting to measure project outcomes and impact.
