Who we Are

medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s rights organization working in Liberia. Our Organization offers support to women and girls affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV) and is involved with programming on women’s agency and leadership. Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors. The organisation’s vision is a just and violence-free society in which women and girls live in dignity. As a feminist organisation, mL advocates for the rights of Liberian women and girls and the end of S/GBV at all levels of society and politics.

Introduction

medica mondiale’s six partner organisations in Sierra Leone and Liberia implement the regional programme “Concerted action for zero tolerance against SGBV in the Mano River Region” with funding from BMZ. The six partner organisations are: in Liberia – medica Liberia (mL), Aiding Disadvantaged and Traumatised Women and Girls (ADWANGA) and Rising Youth Mentorship Initiative (RYMI); in Sierra Leone – Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society (WAVES), Girl2Girl Empowerment Movement (G2G) and Choices and Voices Foundation for Women and Girls (CVF).

The regional programme aims to contribute to women and girls in the Mano River Region being able to live in an inclusive society, in dignity, and free from Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and discrimination. Specifically, the programme seeks to mainstream the rights, needs, and perspectives of women and girls affected by SGBV into social, institutional, and policy responses to prevent and respond to SGBV at national and regional levels, reducing tolerance towards SGBV and at introducing a survivor- centered stress- and trauma-sensitive support for survivors.

To achieve its goal, the BMZ-medica mondiale regional programme has developed National and Regional Advocacy Strategy that will guide the partner organizations to make concerted and visible advocacy contributions at the in-country and regional level.
