The Public Engagement Assistant (Librarian) provides research, outreach, and collection services of a wide scope. Researches electronic and paper-based resources for the American Center Monrovia (ACM), and responds to complex inquiries for information from Liberian users of the American Center Monrovia, Public Affairs staff, and other agencies at post. Develops and maintains contact with target audience members. Contributes to the outreach program and assists with collection development. Position serves under the direct supervision of the Public Engagement Specialist and has no supervisory responsibilities. Coordinates interns in the ACM.
One year specialized experience in the field of library science is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Liberian culture and customs, as well as knowledge of the educational needs of Liberian youth required. Knowledge of electronic retrieval and delivery tools, in particular the Internet and standard information science practices and procedures required. This may be tested. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel required.
Level 4 (Fluent) writing/reading/speaking of English is required. Incumbent must communicate effectively in English to both Liberian and U.S. audiences. This will be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to acquire quickly a good understanding of Mission’s Integrated Country Strategy and the primary responsibilities of other Embassy sections are required. Must be capable of drafting correspondence and reports in English, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. This may be tested. Skills in Microsoft Office are required.
