ABOUT STREET CHILD OF LIBERIA
Street Child of Liberia (SCOL) was registered as a Liberian NGO in 2013 and works in partnership
with UK registered charity, Street Child UK and Sierra Leone partner organization, Street Child
of Sierra Leone (SCoSL). Together the Street Child Group has been working to give out of school
children the opportunity to gain an education since 2008.
Street Child of Liberia is a leading national NGO undergoing significant expansion. Currently
we have 50 Liberian staff, with primary operations in Monrovia and field stations in Maryland,
Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, Lofa & Maryland, with further plans to expand nationwide. To date,
we have received funding from DfID, Comic Relief, the Liberian government’s flagship
Partnership Schools for Liberia program, Geneva Global and several other private and national
funders.
Reading Officers
The Reading Officers will be responsible to improve all the students’ Learning Outcomes in
specified Schools within the LEAP program. They will work closely with Teachers, Principals and
the Community, to support the Street Child Education Team with improving student learning
outcomes.

Job role includes but is not limited to the following areas:
 Support schools to collect, analyse and use data to help improve students’ learning
 Improve reading across all levels
 Work with each teacher on reading strategies and various activities to embed learning
across the curriculum
 Work with Principals to become better reading mentors
 Visit one school a day, observe reading strategies across the curriculum
 Provide one-on-one support to teachers on reading activities
 Complete a school visitation form
 Complete a classroom observation form for each teacher visited
 Lead Reading Training once a term
 Plan and conduct teacher training workshops
 Support and conduct academic assessments
 Provide feedback to Principals on marking period report to improve system
 Assist in coordinating academic assessments
 Collaborate closely with the Learning Support Officers to help support schools and
teachers
 Flag low attendance among both students and teachers
 Track TARL model implementation outcome
Qualifications and Experience:
 A bachelor’s degree in Education, Management or related field
 At least five years of experience in Education
 More than three years in a relevant project management or leadership role.
 Demonstrable experience in NGO work desirable
 Extensive experience in community engagement
 Extensive experience in Classroom management

 Strong organizational and management skills
 Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and to work in a team
 Good knowledge of English & good communication skills
 Ability to coordinate multi-task
 A passionate commitment to the vision of seeing every child in Liberia realising their basic
rights and gaining a meaningful education.
 Pro-active attitude and creative approach
 Hard-working and ability to think outside the box
 Strong management and inter-personal skills and relationship
 Ability to work easily with national and international colleagues alike;
