Safeguarding Job Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve BRAC’s goals on safeguarding.
  2. Act as a resource of support and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  3. Practice, promote, and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  4. Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage other to do so.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, AFSL, BRAC Liberia, this is an exciting Consultancy that will support two highly distinguished researchers from the University of Ghana to support this research study. The Consultant will plan, manage, coordinate and execute several activities under the K-CAI research. A successful candidate will lead the roll-out of several activities under this research including farmer selection, farmer training, input procurement, distribution, follow-ups, monitoring, stakeholder engagement and other administrative/organisational tasks. The candidate will also support the researchers with field work including data collection, tools testing, enumerators selection, training, onboarding and reporting.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall field implementation for a pilot randomised control trial (RCT) with a sample size of 120 smallholder’s farmers that will be divided into treatment and a pure control group. Conduct farmer selection following the protocol provided by the Principal Investigators (PI) and share the finalised list with the PIs for randomised selection into the treatment and control arms. Lead the farmer training sessions including finalisation of training dates, venue, sessions designs, delivery of the technical content, and preparation of post-training reports.
  • Ensure procurement and distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers and do post-training follow ups.
  • Review the revised versions of agriculture training manuals and provide technical inputs and comments.
  • Conduct field visits to understand participants’ (farmer) knowledge on production technologies, local farming practices and market systems.
  • Support Principal Investigators (PI) during field visits to Liberia, including preparing their itinerary, supporting their field visits and providing logistical and administrative support during enumerator training, data collection and fieldwork supervision.
  • Support grants management and bi monthly financial reporting
  • Organise regular check-ins with PIs and BRAC USA
  • Support PIs, Grants Manager and the Program Manager-AFSL with all other tasks related to this research.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A post-graduate or equivalent qualification/degree in Agriculture/Poultry & Livestock or any other relevant discipline.
  • At least 3-5 years of prior work experience in agriculture, homestead gardening, post-harvest management, poultry and livestock rearing, nutrition promotion, health, water and sanitation, training etc. especially in the Liberian context.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating trainings
  • Previous experience in research, monitoring and reporting

  • Ability to travel frequently within Liberia
  • Exceptional interpersonal, management and communication skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills in English.
