Job Title: Rural Advocacy & Education Officer

Contract Type: Full-Time, 12 months fixed term
BACKGROUND
Street Child International Liberia is implementing a four-year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project nationwide. This project, which started in 2022 will enrol and retain 13,500 highly vulnerable primary school age children into education.
The project uses a child-centred approach and a combination of interventions to confront compounded challenges. A strategic combination of social, economic, infrastructural, and instructional support will be utilised to achieve increased access and retention in primary education for 13,500 vulnerable children in Liberia
Job functions Summary:
The Rural Advocacy & Education Officer will work within rural communities around Liberia to improve access to education for thousands of children. This position will be roving across multiple communities in rural areas to increase their awareness, interest, and investment in education.
NB: Due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement that you hold a valid Liberian bike riding license. Proof of this will be asked for at interview.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to lead the implementation of the regional advocacy strategy and campaigns in line with EFECT overall advocacy strategic plan.
- Support the identification and mapping of communities and OOSC that meet EFECT selection criteria
- Providing in-class mentoring support for teachers in issues such as effective lesson planning teaching techniques
- Provide training and mentoring support to teachers in the project supported schools on Street Child teaching methodologies, including Teaching at the Right Level and Early Age Grade Learning Enhancer.
- Conducting additional and specialist training workshops for teachers
- Monitoring teaching and learning in schools
- Building a close relationship with Ministry of Education at County level
- Completion of regular internal reporting and data submission
- Collect and report relevant data on beneficiaries
- Administer structured questionnaires accurately and ethically, ensuring informed consent and confidentiality of respondents.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of collected data and report any challenges to the supervisor promptly.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues (in particular the other Rural Advocacy & Education Officers) to proactively share and coordinate to ensure regional coordinate and harmonized advocacy engagement, initiatives, outputs, and outcomes
- Contribute to the development and review of project tools
- Will represent Street Child in key advocacy forums, as well as identify/monitor opportunities to participate in relevant regional events/meetings on behalf of Street Child.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION AND JOB-RELATED SKILLS
- The ideal candidate should possess at least a degree in education, or have significant experience working in a similar capacity
- Experience in community advocacy preferred
- Excellent writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills
- Excellent communication skills in multiple local languages and English
- Ability to collaborate with a variety of other partners in advocacy field
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines in fast-paced work environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 3 Years’ experience in similar capacity, one of which specifically in advocacy roles.
- Effective training and capacity building skills, proven capacity to work in teams, to create multi-stakeholder networks
- Knowledge of key advocacy approaches such as promoting gender equality and children’s voice, inclusive education and building role models,
- Demonstrable working knowledge of supporting and working with communities and schools
- Experience in working in remote rural communities
- Experience using mobile data collection tools
- Basic Data comprehension and analysis skills
- Experience working with children, caregivers, and other vulnerable groups
- Experience line managing and coaching staff
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Fluency in speaking two or more local languages is an added advantage
