PURPOSE

The Samplers Supervisor will be responsible for all analytical, administration, sampling and preparation of samples, assist the Senior Supervisor in all activities; and, will be in compliance with the Bureau Veritas Quality System as well as the Cardinal Safety Rules and control measures.

.REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • You will report directly to the Senior Supervisor or designated staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1 Technical Competence

  • Overseeing of all sample preparation for specific tests using the correct procedures and /or methods.
  • Sample all samples from train delivered at port by procedures.
  • Obtain samples for quality analysis during shipment loading.
  • Sample stockpile for quality analysis.
    • Diagnose all suspect samples and assist in rectifying the problem whether it is equipment or analytical.
    • Carry out quality checks on all jobs.
    • Assist with the maintenance and verification of equipment.

  • Assist with the maintenance and verification of equipment.

 

  • QHSE Management
  • implement Group QHSE procedures in line with the BU
  • In charge of the inspection and maintenance of the inspection equipment and Calibration
  • Follow company safety procedures and policies during execution of inspections
  • Update the list of equipment and inspection materials

 

3.4 Administration

  • Organize the tracking and collection of samples which includes crush and milled reserved samples.
  • Filing Productivity documents at the end of each shift.
  • Recording and filing of all equipment records for Quality purposes.
  • Sample disposal.

General KPIs

  • Follow up and implements QHSE procedures to avoid FAT, LTR, TAR, ASR, Near

Hits, First Aids, causes of accidents

  • Contributes in reducing energy, water and paper consumption
  • Follow up of customers’ expectations
  • Prevention: Participate to HSE induction and Group safety campaigns.
  • Cleaning of the laboratory and immediate working area.
  • Ensure that quality procedures are complied with.
  • Ensure compliance with Bureau Veritas Quality and Safety policies
  • Overseeing of housekeeping in the laboratory and immediate working area.
  • Ensure that quality procedures are complied with.

  • Carry out duties on all relevant site areas as required by the shift workload.
  • Must be willing to work overtime whenever necessary.
  • Wait for the arrival of your relief at the end of the shift, to ensure smooth shift take over.
  • Shift take over will only take place at the Laboratory.

SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

4.1 Supervising

  • Supervisor skills and computer literacy would be advantages.
  • Shift Supervisor will assist with the training on procedures.
  • The Shift Supervisor must be prepared to relieve the Samplers Supervisors/Laboratory Manager when necessary and to take the lead at a site area where needed.
  • Assist with the control of time keeping on the shift.
  • Check on daily staff attendance and address any problem in a timely manner and pro-actively.
  • Ensure that there are sufficient staff members on shift or report immediately to Laboratory Manager.
  • Each staff member has the authority to execute the stop work process of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard and/or work that may affect the quality or integrity of test results. He/she shall immediately report the situation to a higher level of authority to act.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by Port Supervisor or Assistant Port Supervisor.

5. QUALIFICATIONS

5.1 Education

  • Must have a minimum Grade12 education with Mathematics and Science as subjects.

5.2 Experience

  • Preferred at least two years sample preparation experience, preferably in a laboratory environment.
  • On the job training will be provided as well as formal training.
  • Computer Literate in Word and Excel are added skills.

5.3 Competencies

  • Competent technical knowledge of Sample Prep analytical processes
  • Must be able to work with technical and management staff
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
