Position Title: School Safety and Gender-based Violence Specialist (SSGBVS)

Reports To: Implementation Director

Position Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist, and supervision of the Program Implementation Director the School Safety and Gender based Violence Specialist (SSGBVS) is responsible to create a safe and supportive environment for students/learners. The SSGBVS will coordinate GBV programs. This includes quality control, reporting, analysis and policy setting as well as coordination of different teams and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency response plans Provide training for staff and students on safety procedures
  • Promote awareness about safety issues, including bullying and harassment Work with relevant stakeholders to update/develop and enforce school safety policies
  • Ensure compliance with local and state safety regulations
  • Coordinate responses to safety incidents
  • Maintain records of incidents and follow up on corrective actions Design and implement GBV prevention programs
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on GBV awareness and prevention Provide support and advocacy for GBV survivors
  • Ensure access to counseling and other support services
  • Coordinate with school staff to integrate GBV prevention into the broader school safety framework
  • Monitor the effectiveness of GBV programs and interventions
  • Collect and analyze data to inform future GBV prevention strategies
  • Contribute to the timely and quality implementation of activities, deliver continuous technical coaching, perform monitoring and evaluation of the quality of GBV related work and capacity building of staff who will be working with in GBV prevention and response.
  • The GBV Specialist will support in the provision of training Community Workers to respond to cases of GBV in the targeted Counties and ensure effective case management and GBV prevention activities, respectively.

He /she will oversee the implementation of the GBV program within their designated sites.

  • Provide technical support to maintain high quality program inputs and outputs in the Protection / GBV in program implementation
  • Manage and assist in implementation of work plans for GBV and protection related activities in coordination with the Gender and Social Inclusion Officer Ensure proper documentation of Protection / GBV project
  • Maintain records and supply chain to youth clubs & skill centers Prepare weekly reports on GBV/Protection activities and contribute to donor reports
  • Conduct Field Visits as advised by the supervisor.
  • Attend any meeting / training / workshop / conference as suggested by the Gender and Social Inclusion Officer, after validation of the Program Coordinator Contribute practically and by bringing new ideas for improvement of service delivery in the field.
  • To give more focus on GBV activities with the close coordination with field team for bringing improvement in GBV activities.
  • Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain, monitor and measure GBV project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors.
  • Closely work with the Gender and Social Inclusion officer and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in GBV prevention and response.
  • Participate in the design of project activities, monitoring systems and capacity building activities for partners, community member and children.
  • Oversee awareness raising activities and support the development of messaging.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders, and local NGOs and service providers.
  • Attend and participate in Child Protection Conferences and Planning and Review meetings, some of which may take place out of normal working hours, working closely with colleagues in Children’s Services as required
  • Contribute to professional assessments of need and risk in respect of parents and caregivers using the Local Authority procedures for children in need and significant harm.
  • Coordinate the multi-agency approach to prevent and address child protection issues and children in need at LFSA Schools.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, and ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained by all staff during safeguarding processes.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or related field

Minimum two years’ experience working with survivors of Domestic Violence in the sector of gender equality, social inclusion, GBV and safeguarding particularly working with women, children and youth in the vulnerable community.

Good knowledge and understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, GBV issues and policies in Liberia.

Experience of working with women and youth empowerment projects. Experience of facilitating training on gender, social inclusion and protection with key thematic expertise on GBV

Inputs in preparation of training materials and reference documents Experience in report writing, workshop facilitation and organizations; Strong familiarity with current theories and issues in gender, development studies and human rights;

A strategic planning background would be an asset.

Experience of networking with government line agencies and other development stakeholders

Ability to analyze information, evaluate options, and follow strategic directions for influencing key stakeholders.

Ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels including regional, global colleagues, partners, consortiums, poor and marginalized communities and other stakeholders.

Knowledge of working with office software packages (Windows, Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Internet).

Experience working with an international NGO

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English written and spoken;

Knowledge of other native languages spoken in Liberia would be an asset.
