The Liberia Chamber of Commerce is seeking an experienced and tech-savvy leader to serve as its Secretary General (SG). The SG has oversight over all the Chamber’s activities and plays an instrumental role in ensuring that the Chamber achieves its objectives. Scope of Responsibility

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Chamber including staff recruitment, performance management and development, hosting meetings, ensuring procedures and controls adherence, protecting assets and maintaining records.
  • Consul and advise the President, members of the Executive Council and other organs on important developments on matters of the economy at the domestic and international levels.
  • Initiate, develop and execute activities to mobilize resources for the sustainability of the Chamber. These shall include proposal writing for projects, partnering and/or serving as Implementing Partner to the Government of Liberia (GoL), Multilateral institutions, NGOs, Donors, and business institutions to undertake special projects, training, data collection, business surveys, holding luncheons, annual awards events, etc.
  • Work with GoL on matters pertaining to trade treaties: MRU, ECOWAS, AU-AfCFTA, WTO, AGOA and other applicable trade protocols.
  • Where applicable, engage and lobby GoL for policy, regulation, and law reforms in the interest of the private sector in the country, and internationally to supports an enabling business environment.
  • Build and maintain an effective website and relevant social media pages to disseminate Chamber information.
  • Initiate, coordinate, organize and execute, in consultation with the President, activities regarding public relation.
  • Represent the Chamber as the“voice of the Private Sector”at various forums, functions, and events.
  • Engage the educational system to tailor and produce skills required for the private sector.
  • Enhance the existing services provided by the Chamber and develop new services including the extension of support services to SMEs and through coordination with other entities in providing services to its members.
  • Prepare substantive economic papers for the Chamber.
  • Observe, analyze and report relevant (State, Domestic, and Global) political, economic, and social events that impact the economy.
  • Obtain evidence-based information and research to advise the Chamber of significant policy measures.
  • Engage Universities to assess social-economic community issues for resolution.
  • Review and interpret GoL budget and Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) quarterly reports.
  • Transform the Chamber into a one-stop hub as the business resource information center.
  • Coordinate lectures, workshops, seminars, and training on various common issues
  • Respect, honor, and maintain international memberships and commitments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a professional discipline (Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, etc.) relevant to providing executive leadership for an organization of this type from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience to perform the required duties skill sets.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a business-related field (or other leadership position).
  • Present a professional and positive image to members of the Chamber, the Business Community, government officials and representatives, and the public through appropriate appearance and grooming, demeanor, and comments.
  • Person of good character and integrity
  • Excellent communications organization skills
  • High business acumen
