SOS Children’s Villages International works through member associations in 136 countries and territories worldwide.
SOS Children’s Villages Liberia has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s need and concerns in Liberia since 1981. We focus our work on children without parental care and children at risk of losing parental care and their communities. The organisation has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Buchana, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and high schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes
We are in search for a Senior Accountant at SOS Children’s Villages Liberia National Office, Monrovia.
Position Title reports directly to the Finance & Controlling Manager
Expectation
To coordinate & provide needed support to all program finance
activities and provide a technical support role to all assigned project /
program accountants
S/he is responsible to exhibit professional & ethical manner of
handling all financial matters relating to National Office/Functions and
programs/ project business e.g. fees, revenues, petty cash, bills etc.
Responsible for collecting, checking, entering/documenting, recording
and reconciling all monies in the appropriate books.
Support the preparation and implementation of budgets in liaison with
the Project Heads.
Position Demands
Must be a bachelor degree holder in finance and accounting
Must have at least 5 years experience in handling financials
A highly experienced and competent accountant with excellent
mathematical accounting, book keeping and computing software
skills.
Computer literacy in order to use SOS Global Accounting software
Excellent organizational and communicative skills.
Honesty integrity trustworthiness and ability to treat all information in
the outmost confidence.
A strong firm approach dealing with difficult personnel e.g. staff and
parents/guardians.
Principal Responsibilities
To ensure that the project operates within its budget.
Monitor & supervise /recommend relevant actions for quality financial management and accountability
To check the monthly running cost has been transferred. To pay revenues into the appropriate SOS Liberia account. To be responsible for the petty cash and to balance at the end of each day.
To prepare and issue cheques, with cheque payment vouchers / valid receipts showing discount.
To prepare petty cash payment and Petty Cash Payment Vouchers / valid receipts showing discount.
To enter all revenues & payments into Revenue, Cash & Bank Registers and balance them daily.
To prepare all necessary adjustments required by using the Extra Journal and submit them to the Finance and Controlling Manager for approval.
To post into SOS Global all transaction booked in the registers & Extra Journal by using the correct account code monthly. To prepare Bank reconciliation at the end of each month. To prepare the monthly financial statement and budget comparison. To be responsible for the safe key.
To be responsible for paying monies to the appropriate SOS Liberia project revenue account c/o National Office and to keep in contact with the bank as necessary.
Evaluation
The Finance and Controlling Manager & the Project Head will assess the performance of the Senior Accountant at least twice a year. The factors that will be considered are:
The completeness, accuracy and order of the financial records The quality, accuracy and promptness of the submission of the required financial statements
The general atmosphere and efficiency with which the accounts office is run
The accuracy of the submitted budget and the efficiency and control of the income & expenditures
Professionalism in dealing with staff, partner & student’s parents / guardians
Child Protection & Child Safeguarding
Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.
Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT!
Act without delay: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.
Involve the right people at the right time: CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager.
