JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Driller is responsible for planning and executing all drilling operations at the Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. quarry in preparation for blasting, ensuring holes are drilled to the correct pattern, depth, and angle to achieve safe, efficient, and cost-effective rock fragmentation. As a front-line, on-site leader, the Senior Driller supervises drilling crews, enforces strict safety standards, and works closely with the blasting team and quarry management to maintain a steady, well-planned supply of drilled rock for crushing operations. The role reports directly to the General Manager and requires deep technical knowledge of drilling equipment, ground conditions, and quarry safety practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as an on-site leader by setting the standard for safety, discipline, technical accuracy, and professionalism among drilling crew members.
- Plan and mark out drill patterns, hole spacing, depth, and angle in line with the blast design and quarry face conditions.
- Operate and/or directly supervise the operation of drilling rigs to bore blast holes accurately and efficiently.
- Inspect drilling equipment before, during, and after use, and coordinate with maintenance staff to address faults or breakdowns promptly.
- Assess rock formations and ground conditions to select appropriate drilling techniques and adjust plans as needed.
- Work closely with the blasting team to ensure drilled holes meet specifications required for safe and effective blasting.
- Enforce strict compliance with quarry safety procedures, including exclusion zones, PPE use, and safe equipment handling, at all times.
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior drillers and drill helpers, building their technical skill and safety awareness.
- Maintain accurate drilling records, including hole counts, depths, patterns, downtime, and consumable usage (drill bits, rods, fuel).
- Coordinate drilling schedules with the General Manager and Plant Manager/Crushing Supervisor to ensure a consistent feed of blasted rock to the crusher.
- Monitor and manage consumption of drilling consumables and recommend timely procurement to avoid operational delays.
- Report any safety hazards, ground instability, equipment malfunctions, or incidents to the General Manager immediately.
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably assigned by the General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 3 – 5 years of proven experience in drilling operations within a quarry, mining, or construction environment.
- Demonstrated experience supervising or leading a drilling crew.
- Strong practical knowledge of drill rigs, drill bits, rods, compressors, and related drilling equipment.
- Working understanding of blast hole design, rock types, and ground conditions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy sufficient to complete drilling logs, production records, and consumable reports.
- Knowledge of quarry safety standards and experience working alongside blasting operations is strongly preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Based on-site at the Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. quarry in Zarzone Town, District 1, Margibi County.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, noise, vibration, and heavy equipment typical of a quarry drilling environment.
- Work is performed near active blasting areas and requires strict adherence to exclusion zones and safety protocols.
- May require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend work to meet production schedules.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times on site.
