Organizational Background

The Mitchell Group, Inc. (TMG), a US-based international development company, is seeking a qualified candidate to support the Partnership for Research on Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in Liberia (PREVAIL) Program, a joint U.S.-Liberia clinical research partnership funded by the U.S. Government.

Summary of Position

The Senior Generator Technician will supervise generator technicians across all TMG/PREVAIL sites and will oversee the entire electrical system at JFK. This role requires strong technical and administrative skills, including scheduling technicians, conducting preventive maintenance, identifying issues proactively, and working closely with the PREVAIL electrician, all PMAs and Site Managers. In addition, the Senior Generator Technician will ensure compliance with safety regulations and provide 24/7 emergency support to maintain critical backup power infrastructure, most especially at JFKMC.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Description of Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues on diesel/gas engines, alternators, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and paralleling switchgear.
  • Interpret schematic wiring diagrams, blueprints, and PLC control panels to isolate and resolve system defects.
  • Provide technical guidance on rewinding generator engines, replace high-pressure fuel system components, and repair cooling/exhaust systems on generators
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) in compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, start-ups on new units, and comprehensive load-bank testing to prevent wet stacking.
  • Monitor the performance of the LEC transformer connected to the PREVAIL main powerline at the Technical Building.
  • Frequently assess grounding systems to determine any issues to resolve them proactively to prevent any future breakdowns
  • Assess electrical system and provide recommendations to address any critical issues.
  • Test and evaluate batteries, fuel, coolant, and oil conditions; analyze oil samples and make necessary adjustments.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and supervision to all generator technicians.
  • Oversee worksites during complex installations or major repair projects to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Utilize work order management and tools to accurately document service hours, equipment readings, and parts inventory.
  • Enforce strict compliance with OSHA safety guidelines and customer-specific site safety requirements.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules to provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency support.
  • Respond to urgent service calls at critical facilities at all of TMG/PREVAIL site to restore power rapidly.

  • Knowledge of lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical school diploma in diesel mechanics or electrical power generation highly preferred. Certifications (e.g., EGSA) are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 to 10 years of direct, hands-on experience in the maintenance, installation, and repair of industrial power generation equipment.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of engine mechanics, 3-phase electricity, and generator controls.
