WaterAid is currently seeking a Social Behavior Change Specialist for the anticipated five-year USAID-funded project seeking to improve access to safe drinking water support in two counties of Liberia. This future USAID project will have a strong focus on SBCC with aim of improving behavior change for sustaining ownership, services, and other outcomes for the project. The project design is emphasizing people centered designs and private-sector-driven market solutions for social behavior change concerning water management and use.

The Social Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) Specialist will be responsible for providing overall technical assistance for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SBCC strategies as well as building the capacity of the local partners, partner organizations, and their frontline workers in SBCC. S/he will ensure the utilization of best practices and global learning to inform the development of effective SBCC strategies, frameworks, tools, materials)) for WaterAid’s interventions.

The SBCC Specialist will also support WaterAid’s efforts to enhance the delivery of USAID Urban Water Supply project in communities, schools, and government health facilities through the delivery of SBC technical assistance.

Working within the Programme Team, the Social Behavior Specialist will be responsible for:

Providing oversight and strategic direction to the SBCC program components, including technical assistance for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SBCC strategies.

Developing and supervising gender-sensitive messaging and training materials for project activities.

conducting formative research to inform the social behavior change communication strategy, including but not limited to barrier analysis, market segmentation, identification of existing messaging materials, identifying priority and influencing groups, etc.

Lead capacity development of Project participants on changing behaviors and social norms that enable efficient utilization and sustainable behavior change relating to WASH.

To be successful, you’ll need to have:

Degree or professional qualification in a relevant subject (for example water and sanitation engineering, Public health, Communications, Marketing, Social or Behavioral Sciences)

Postgraduate qualification in a social development subject.

Significant experience in community-based water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion projects and experience in participative monitoring and evaluation.
