ABOUT STREET:

Street Child started working in Liberia in 2013, helping street children in the capital of Monrovia.
When Liberia was hit with the Ebola crisis, we expanded our work to support the thousands of
children impacted by Ebola to go to school. We believe in supporting children in every aspect of
their school life: school environment, teachers, parents, the wider community and the barriers to
education they face.
Street Child is a principal provider and top performer of the Liberian Education Advancement
Partnership (LEAP), a flagship public-private partnership run by the Liberian Government’s
Ministryof Education, outsourcing the administration and management of public schools to private
providers in an ambitious effort to enhance learning gains.
Street Child is now working in four regions in Liberia: Montserrado, Margibi, Cape Mount and
Maryland, where our three main areas of focus are;
 Education
 Child protection, and
 livelihoods.

JOB:

Street Child of Liberia (SCoL) – through its main partner Street Child UK – is implementing a four-
year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project nationwide. This project will target enrolling

and retaining 13,500 highly vulnerable primary school age children into education.
The project uses a child-centered approach and a combination of interventions to confront
compounded challenges. A strategic combination of social, economic, infrastructural, and
instructional support will be utilized to achieve increased access and retention in primary
education for 13,500 vulnerable children in Liberia.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Social Street Workers (SSWs) will be responsible for the implementation and Monitoring of all
Street Work Activities at the field level. The successful candidate (s) will be roving across multiple
communities and will work directly with Out-of –Street Children (OOSC) to increase enrolment and
improve retention in schools
REPORTING TO: Head of Advocacy & Social Work Lead
RESPONSIBLE FOR: None
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Provide awareness and social mobilization within communities on street connected related
cases including child labor.
 Identify, recruit Out-of – Street Children (OOSC) and enroll in primary public schools

 Conduct intensive school monitoring in schools of Street Child of Liberia (SCoL) beneficiaries
 Provides basic psychosocial and counseling support to street connected children.
 Provides advocacy for street children where needed including re-unification of families.
 Provides assistance of motivation to change risky lifestyle of street children.
 Work in collaboration with community leaders and stakeholders in improving the
wellbeing of the children self- esteem, confidence, security and self-being.
 Liaise local governance structures (CWCs, PTAs) relevant government line ministries and
agencies to support the recruitment, enrollment and retention of OOSC
 Report incidence, cases to the team leader when such need arises,
 Provide follow up routine, conduct formal or informal street corner education.
 Carry out any other duties as delegated/requested in the interest of the project

ABOUT YOU: We are looking for people with the right competencies and skills for the role, and who demonstrate the personal qualities consistent with Street Child Values.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL:

 Bachelor/advance degree in social sciences, or its equivalent, with a minimum of three
years’ progressive experience in a related field;
 Proven experience in community engagement and mobilization skills
 Proven knowledge and experience in identification, documentation, and case filling skills
 Minimum of two years’ experience in an International organization, governmental or local
organizations.
 Ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to
government officials, international funders, caregivers and vulnerable children
 Ability to work as part of a team to support the team in communities that may not be your
usual place of work
 Good knowledge on the rights of children and women, disability including the challenges
and opportunities in Liberia
 At least 2 years’ experience in an International organization, governmental or local organizations.
 Ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to
government officials, international funders, caregivers and vulnerable children
 Ability to work as part of a team to support the team in communities that may not be your
usual place of work
 Good knowledge on the rights of children and women, disability including the challenges
and opportunities in Liberia

 Ability to prepare briefing notes, presentations and other knowledge products;
