SOS Children’s Villages International works through member associations in 137 countries and territories worldwide.

SOS Children’s Villages Liberia has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s need and concerns in Liberia since 1981. We focus our work on children without parental care and children at risk of losing parental care and their communities. The organisation has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Juah Town, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes.

The SOS Hermann Gmeiner International School seeks to hire the services of Teachers in the following subject categories:

Language Arts/Literature, Agriculture, Geography and French.

Reports to Vice Principal of HGIS

Responsibilities of the position as indicated below:

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to teaching material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule, providing detailed feedback, mentoring/challenging students to grow intellectually and spiritually, maintaining contact with students to advise on matters related to academic achievement, attendance, and behaviour, and maintaining/reporting grades and attendance in accordance with the SOS HGIS School

policies.

Help ensure that instructional modifications or accommodations are present during assessment time; Arrange the classroom to enhance smooth learning for pupils/students.

Plan daily lessons and strategize how the planned lessons will be presented to the pupils/students adequately. Support the school’s culture and practices for inclusions, conduct all work activities professionally, assess students learning needs in the classroom on a concrete basis, deploying strategies as directed by the VPI in the classroom.

Keep rigorous data on accommodation and or modification and or alternative programing to classroom tasks;

Support Pupils as they strive to meet academic and developmental needs- ensure that metrics are put in place so that every small success is measurable.

Carry out measures to address students’ need in the classroom on a focused basis, perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Principal/VPI

Purpose

The teacher is the head of the classroom.

Is responsible to teach the general / special subjects in the primary/secondary school curriculum, or in any selected area vocational or academic.

To be responsible for the academic and moral well being of the children in his/her class during the school day. To support and assist the Principal in all matters of discipline.

To carry out special duties as assigned by the Vice Principal, or supervisor

Working Relationship

To report to the immediate supervisor, and the principal.

Teachers should give all the support they can to their peers in dealing with academic problems. Teachers should work as a team under the direction of the Vice principal and or senior staff. Teachers should always seek the educational interests and well being of students.

Principal Responsibilities

Class teaching.

Preparation of school records (class register, forecast, notes of lesson, schemes of work, report cards etc.) Regular evaluation of children in through class work, homework, test and assignments, regulars marking of all students work.

Supervision of children during all time.

Supervision of general cleaning of classroom and immediate environment.

Attendance of PTA and reporting of grade sheets.

Accountability

The vice principal or supervisor will assess the performance of the teacher at least twice per year. The factors that will be taken into account are:

The quality of lesson preparation and class teaching.

Teacher’s professional/personal attitude, general performance in execution of duties, responsibilities and results achieved.

Attitude towards colleagues/students.

Participation in school activities.

Involvement in extra-curricula activities.

General feedback / observations.

Qualification

BSc Education

From an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the. Ministry of Education in the following: Demonstrated strengths in teaching at the high school level.

Strong organizational skills that facilitate assignment/task anticipation and completion. Superior interpersonal, customer service and presentation skills.

Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.

Mastery of the Microsoft Office suite and online Learning Management Systems.

A trained, and suitably qualified teacher.

Total commitment dedication and allegiance to SOS school and students.

A positive approach to work and willingness to carry out extra duties.

Child Protection & Child Safeguarding

Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination. Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT! Act immediately: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.

Involve the right people at the right time: CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager.
