Who we are:
medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s right organization working in Liberia. Our Organization offers support to women and girls who have been affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV). Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors. In this regard, mL is looking to hire qualified individual for the below position:
The Income Generating Activities (IGA) was an idea integrated into mL strategy for support to local women structures called “Support Group” that are actively responding to sexual and gender-based violence cases at the community. As part of the IGA activities, medica Liberia has established 12 groups providing some financial assistance towards the Village Savings Loan Associations (VSLA) and training to enable the groups to operate. In addition, it was decided that farming support be included to enhance with the view of empowering the groups towards sustainability.
From 2016 – 2021, they have engaged in these economic activities, and at this point, medica Liberia is interested in undertaking an assessment to gauge the viability of the groups. 2. a. General objective:
To enhance medica Liberia’s strategies to improve its evolving income generating activities strategies so as to improve programming and develop a systematic approach to monitoring progress of the groups.
✔ To identify activities implemented in each intervention communities
✔ To assess the relevance, progress made and identify challenges faced by groups ✔ To document lessons learned
✔ Provide expert advice to medica Liberia regarding the continuity of such activities 3. Methodology: A qualitative approach is expected to be employed for this assessment.
Key Questions
∙ What different income generation programs exist in the County?
∙ Are there income generating activities responding to the context especially business environment? What needs to be improved?
∙ To what extent are the IGA planned to financially sustainable? Why or why not? ∙ Have there been unintended negative or positive impacts from the income generating activities?
∙ What are the capacities of the groups to manage and run these activities? How well are they doing?
∙ What monitoring systems are in place to ensure continuous monitoring is done?
Deliverables:
∙ Produce final copy of assessment report.
∙ Individuals in the suitable team must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in the fields of Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Research Methodologies, Development Studies, Education or any other related fields;
∙ Work experience on or related to economic/income generating activity ∙ At least 5 years’ experience working with development organizations by undertaking desk reviews, as well as rapid assessments & or evaluations;
∙ The consultant team should be conversant with NGO’s operation with a focus on feminism, women’s rights and sexual and gender based violence;
∙ The consultant team should have a significant experience of collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from surveys/assessments;
∙ Knowledge of medica Liberia’s work is an added advantage.
