Organizational Background
The Mitchell Group, Inc. (TMG), a US-based international development company, is seeking qualified candidates to support the Partnership for Research on Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in Liberia (PREVAIL) Program, a joint U.S.-Liberia clinical research partnership funded by the U.S. Government.
Summary of Position
The Training Manager is responsible for assessing immediate skills gaps and competencies, planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating all training activities required for the effective implementation of a multi-site clinical research project. This role ensures that all staff—clinical, field, laboratory, data, and administrative—are adequately trained in accordance with the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ethics standards, and organizational policies.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performing needs assessments to determine training requirements and the most suitable and efficient mode(s) of providing training (e.g., on-site including workshop, in-depth training, via teleconferencing or web meeting, via websites) and coordinating onboarding programs.
- Identifying appropriate content and subject matter experts, and overseeing the development, review/approval, distribution, evaluation, and modifications/updates for training materials as necessary.
- Developing and implementing training programs related to aspects of clinical research best practices, professional development, and leadership development;
- Identifying training requirements and resources;
- Providing guidance and support to trainers, and other stakeholders, in planning, developing, and implementing training events;
- Overseeing the maintenance and storage of training records.
- Monitoring and coordinating training activities to track and ensure that all clinical staff are compliant.
Description of Responsibilities
- Key Responsibility #1: Oversee the Training Strategy and Planning. Illustrative tasks are:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive project training plan.
- Conduct training needs assessment.
- Collaborate with department heads and project leadership to determine training priorities.
- Key Responsibility #2: Training Development. Illustrative tasks are:
- Assist in the design of training curricula, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and competency tools identified by departments.
- Assist the departments in the preparation of materials for GCP, ethics, data quality, scientific writing and presenting, and protocol procedures.
- Key Responsibility #3: Training Delivery. Illustrative tasks are:
- Facilitate training sessions in-person and virtually.
- Coordinate external trainers when required.
- Coordinate with the Human Resources Department to ensure all new staff receive orientation before starting work.
- Key Responsibility #4: Manage training compliance and Documentation. Illustrative tasks are:
- Maintain training logs and databases.
- Coordinate with Principle Investigator (PIs) and study Coordinator to ensure audit-ready training documentation.
- Support staff adherence to GCP and SOPs.
- Develop a procedure for documentation of training events.
- Provide a mechanism to document and record training events.
- Document staff training completion and training events using a centralized training tracking system.
- Establish a training file at the site and on SharePoint for each training event offered.
- Key Responsibility #5: Monitoring and Evaluation. Illustrative tasks are:
- Provide a means for training events to be evaluated by the trainer and trainees.
- Provide a means to collect training evaluation data.
- Communicate training quality and effectiveness metrics data to appropriate site management, Subject Matter Expert (SME), and any specifically identified senior management within a week after the training is concluded.
- Key Responsibility #6: Communication and Coordination. Illustrative tasks are:
- Serve as focal point for all training communication.
- Participate in leadership meetings.
- Provide regular training reports.
- Key Responsibility #7: Identify the financial and administrative resources required for a successful learning program.
- Oversee annual training budget development, and
- Provide training budget estimate.
- Key Responsibility #8: Responsible for tracking, coordinating and preparing key PREVAIL training reports and deliverables.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Organization Development, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Clinical Research, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
- GCP certification required.
- 3–5 years of experience in training within a clinical research or healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of research ethics, SOPs, and quality assurance processes.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to manage multi-site training activities.
