Welthungerhilfe
Welthungerhilfe was founded in 1962 as the National Committee of the “Freedom from Hunger
Campaign” set up by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Today it is
one of the largest non-governmental organizations working in the area of development
cooperation and humanitarian aid in Germany. Non-profit making, non-denominational and
politically independent, the organization is run by a board of honorary members under the
patronage of the German President.
Welthungerhilfe is working in 40 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and campaigns
publically for fairer cooperation with developing countries. Its work is funded by private
donations from the population at large and public grants including USAID/OFDA, ECHO (FPA Ppartner), and works with funding from BMZ, German Foreign Office, DEVCO/Europe Aid, DFID,
KFW among many others.
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Liberia is implementing in four counties (grand Gedeh, River
Gee, Sinoe & Grand Kru) the KfW Health System Strengthening projects in Liberia. This
project targets the construction, rehabilitation or expansion of 9 health facilities in the
four counties. Additional measures include equipping those health facilities; capacity
building for maintenance and management of facilities as well as medical equipment. It
is a 15.4 million euro grant from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation
and Development (BMZ) channeled through the German Development Bank (KfW) to
the Government of Liberia. The four-year project (2019 – 2023) is being implemented by
Welthungerhilfe as the Project Executing Agency (PEA) on behalf of the Government of
Liberia
Welthungerhilfe has been in Liberia since 2003 with a focus on Agriculture/ Sustainable Food
and Nutrition Security, Infrastructure and WASH.
Location: Based in Zwedru with regular travel to other field locations in South East of Liberia.
Duration: 1 year with possible extension
Job purpose: The aims of the position are to drive and maintain office vehicles
Responsible for transporting goods from one place to another using heavy or tractor trailer
trucks
Responsible to: Logistics Department / Head of Project
Responsible for: Co-Driver
Main
Responsibilities:
• Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned truck
• Drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000lbs
• Pick-up and safely transport goods to the intended destination
• Ensure contents are properly secure in a truck, flatbed to prevent damage
/injury
• Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries
• Stay on a predetermined route and ensure timely transport and delivery
• Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road
• Perform inspections of your truck prior to and following each trip
• Always ensure your truck is kept clean
• Maintain and Service truck when needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure,

repairs, etc.)
• Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
• Timely report necessary repairs or other needed maintenance
• Immediately report any involvement of the project/office vehicle in any, even
minor accidents, or any damage of theft of equipment from the vehicle
• Follow delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times
• Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs
• Track and report working hours
• Adhere to Welthungerhilfe rules and regulations
• Ensure that the vehicle is not on the road between 7:00pm and 6:00am and that
all exceptions of this rule have been approved by the management.
• Ensure that no passengers other than personnel of Welthungerhilfe and
Implementing Partners are allowed on board.
• Load /unload and set-up/dismantle equipment transported to and from the office
• Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather /road
conditions
• Always make safety a priority.
• Fulfillment of any other tasks which are assigned by the management and
correspond in the general with the character of this position.
Requirements and
Qualifications:
• Minimum 3+ years of proven work experience as truck driver in an international
organizations/company
• Valid Truck driver’s license required
• Clean driving record with no violations
• Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles
• Physically and mentally fit
• Ability to lift 80 lbs. at a time
• Able to operate an electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks etc.
• Pallet Jack experience required, forklift experience preferred.
• Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English
Computer skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially: Word and Excel
Good working knowledge of modern communication systems
Personal Skills: • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
• Team player; able to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Able to take initiative, self-motivated/independently working
• Integrity
• Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
• Ability to handle work in high work pressure situation.
