Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development (SHED) is a Liberian NGO that works for fair and resilient society, founded in 2017. The institutional objective of the organization is to promote sustainable change by enabling vulnerable people and communities to improve their livelihoods. SHED’s mission is to take sustainable actions for human empowerment. SHED supports poor communities with sustainable measures to eradicate poverty without negatively affecting their environment. SHED also operates a semi-commercial level poultry farm that functions as a social enterprise and hop for support to other farmers and improving household and community nutritional intake, providing people with increased access to employment and improving their skills for employability and production, and contributing to an overall green economy. SHED works closely with local duty bearers, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Justice, other government agencies, and the private sector through collaboration and partnership.

 

1.2 Summary of the ASPIRE Project

ASPIRE is a new 5 year project funded by the Embassy of Ireland guided by their country strategy and the global policy A Better World” (ICSP) 2023-27. Responding to increasing food and nutrition insecurity, the overall goal of the project is to increase vulnerable households’ resilience to food and nutrition insecurity by strengthening food systems in District One in Grand Bassa County. To achieve this, the project adopts an integrated Food System for Food security approach which brings together the four food security pillars: availability, access, utilization and stability, using a systems approach. Expected outcomes:

 Increased inclusive climate smart food production (availability)

 Stronger access to markets for those living in conditions of extreme poverty (access)

 Stable consumption of an adequate and affordable diet by all (utilization)

 Evidence generated is used to influence at district and national level (stability)

Position Title:WASH OFFICER
Supervisor/Reports to:Program Director

ROLE PURPOSE:

The post holder will be responsible for overall community mobilization and engagement, timely planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and review of WASH interventions. He or SHE will also ensure that the human, material and financial resources of the project are well managed in line with plan financial, grant management and other approved guidelines in close collaboration with the project and the program director.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Ensure the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) component of the project is implemented according to the approved donor and government agreements.;
  • Conduct baseline assessment on community needs, existing WASH related initiatives (water supply, sanitation and hygiene), existing infrastructures and capacities in WASH, and identify the project intervention’s sites;
  • Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly action plans of project activities related to WASH, including checklist for assessments, monitoring, review and evaluation of project activities;
  • Responsible for specifying and ordering required materials for WASH interventions with in planned timeframe;
  • Ensure goods and stocks are properly recorded and distributed in accordance with funding documentation;
  • Mobilize the community to participate in the project and encourage all groups to participate in the project;
  • Facilitate trainings and promotional activities towards improving the hygiene and sanitation practices of the local experts and communities;
  • Ensure that WASH activities are integrated with other activities for optimum benefit of the beneficiaries;
  • Develop and regularly update a detailed project work plan guiding the project implementation and ensure this is used by the project team to monitor project progress towards completion the WASH component of the project;
  • Coordinate and attend WASH related meetings at County levels;
  • Liaise with other actors for appropriate response in WASH sector in close consultation with the immediate supervisors;
  • Compile weekly, monthly and periodical progress reports both for internal and external consumption;
  • Oversee Monitoring and Evaluation activities in WASH component.

Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in Water Management, Engineering, Environmental Science;
  • At least five years of relevant work experience as a WASH technician;
  • Experience in project management, from conception to delivery;
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Planner
