Christ – which alone satisfies the deepest thirst. Living Water International is providing safe drinking water,
Christian Witness, sanitation and health education to communities across Africa, including Liberia.
Living Water International Liberia is currently seeking application for the position of Water and Sanitation
Engineer.
The WASH Engineer is a key technical position in the Living Water’s Liberia team. The position will lead the
planning and implementation of complex water services and wash facilities in the program areas to ensure
access to safe and clean water. The position will also require the involvement and collaboration with local
authorities and stakeholders. The WASH Engineer will ensure adequate supervision of construction activities
and take corrective measures appropriately. S/he will maintain a professional working relationship with all
relevant actors in order to ensure efficient delivery of the program and provide timely reporting.
The key responsibilities for the position are:
• Design and implement water, sanitation and hygiene schemes, both initial outlines and full plans,
including piped systems, borehole drilling and construction (with hand pumps or motorized pumps),
rainwater harvesting projects, mini-water treatment projects, institutional sanitation facilities (the scale of
the design may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design)
• Design or guide pumping test and perform pumping test analysis for shallow and deep boreholes
• Perform water demand analysis and water quality test
• As part of the WPA design team, take part in WASH situational analysis of program areas inside of the
geographical focus area or WASH Program Area (WPA)
• Analyze potential and unintended impacts of the work on communities, particularly children and
vulnerable groups, and factor those in the design and planning of WASH infrastructures
• Comply with Living Water International Quality Standards and procedures and government guidelines
• Develop Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and tender documents as a basis for construction
• Review technical submissions
• Liaise with various bodies and individuals with regards to infrastructure projects, including local
authorities, government agencies, clients, contractors, residents, technical experts and other
consultants
• Work collaboratively with Church and Community Mobilization Coordinator, Hygiene and Sanitation
coordinators and M&E manager/officer
• Keep up to date with environmental matters, and be aware of policy and developments in this area
• Present technical data or project results to both technical and non-technical clients and colleagues
• Supervise or monitor the progress of projects from beginning to end – from design through to
construction and handover, including oversight of contractors and updating design drawing as per field
requirements, and provide payment certificates;
• Control construction budgets
• Administer contracts and ensure that work is completed to deadline
• Supervise staff, including other engineers, technicians and site workers

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:
o At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field: Civil Engineering, Water Engineering,
Biosystems/Environmental Engineering, etc.
o Three or more years direct experience in hydraulic design and construction of small and
medium-scale WASH structures;
o Experience in GIS software and its application in WASH activities;
o Skill in Civil Engineering Design Software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, etc.)
o Knowledge of urban planning and urban governance is a plus;
o Fluent spoken and written English is a plus;
o Ability to manage a high workload and prioritize deadlines;
o Excellent skills with Microsoft Office suite;
o Be self-motivated professional
This position will require travel to the different regions in Liberia where Living Water works.
This position require the successful candidate to contribute towards promoting and adhering to the Living
