Job Purpose:

The Youth and Volunteer Coordinator (YVC) is responsible, under the supervision of the Secretary General, is responsible for the planning, organizing and directing the volunteering development in LNRCS in order to ensure the resuscitation of its volunteer-network. The occupant of this post will provide leadership and serve as the focal person for Liberian Red Cross volunteers. He/she will also work with the heads of the volunteers in the various chapters and branches to develop relevant programs that would ensure that volunteers are active and adhere to the policies of the National Society. The holder of this post will also work to ensure that all volunteers are protected and care for, while ensuring that all of the necessary system to ensure Transparency and Accountability are in place.

Qualification and Experience:

Education
  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Sociology, Management, of any social science
  • Certificate in Psychosocial work, gender-based violence and or peace and conflict management, etc.
Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in social work or related fields preferably in rural area. Working with conflicts, human rights, gender, youths, and women groups
  • Background in youth advocacy and volunteerism
  • Knowledge of community development
  • Experience working for the LNRCS will be an advantage
Knowledge and Skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong mediating, negotiating and problem solving skills
  • Skills in working with distressed and stressed people
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience in health and psychosocial development programming and management practices in a rural environment
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with sensitivity in a multi-cultural environment and in developing and coordinating networks and coalitions to accomplish goals
  • Experience in security management is an asset
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Strong planning, monitoring, evaluation skills
  • Computer skills – word processing and e-mail
  • Demonstrates initiative in developing action plans and resolving problems as they occur
  • Skills in negotiation, advocacy, and networking
  • Commitment to represent the RCRC Movement and to act in accordance with Red Cross Fundamental Principles and the LNRCS Code of Conduct
Language:
  • Fluent written and spoken English

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

DUTIES Applicable to all

  1. Work towards the achievement of the National Society’s mandate in the country through effective managerial and lateral relations and teamwork.
  2. Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities.
  3. Perform other work-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by line manager

 

Specific Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

  1. Work towards the achievement of LNRCS mandate through effective managerial relations and teamwork.

 

  1. Place accountability, and transparency as a hall-mark for carrying out duties and functions

 

  1. Plan and lead the implementation of volunteers management procedures

 

  1. Ensure the development and management of an effective volunteer database at all levels

 

  1. Supervise and train chapter volunteer focal persons in their role and facilitate implementation of volunteer management system at Chapter level.

  1. Work with stakeholders to develop partnerships, where appropriate, to develop and/or utilize volunteers.

 

  1. Develop and ensure the implementations of relevant training programs for all youth and volunteers.

 

  1. Sets up and attends volunteer meeting and report on volunteer activities as needed

 

  1. Developing and managing policies, procedures and standards for youths and volunteers.

 

  1. Ensure planning and goal setting for all volunteers across the national society.

 

  1. Ensure youth and volunteers are properly cared for and protected at all times, including reviewing insurance.

 

  1. Participate in relevant meetings to promote and advocate for rights and engagements of volunteers.

 

  1. Develop and implement a volunteer recognition program.

 

  1. Develop a standardized volunteering orientation guide

 

  1. Conduct trainings, coaching and follow ups to volunteers.

 

  1. Provide regular update and report to line manager

 

  1. Any other tasks as assigned by line manager
