Position : Youth and Volunteers Coordinator
Department : Management
Reports to : (Secretary General)
Location : LNRCS Headquarters, Monrovia (with field missions as required)

  1. Background

The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) recognizes youths and volunteers as the backbone and frontliners of the organization’s humanitarian work. The Youth and Volunteers Coordinator play a key role in ensuring effective engagement, coordination, and capacity development of youth and volunteers at all levels of the Society. The position supports planning, implementation, and reporting of youth and volunteer-related programs, events, and initiatives across the Country.

  1. Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the Youth and Volunteers Coordinator is to develop, organize and manage programs for young people while also recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to support the organization’s mission in line with LNRCS Strategy, Youth Policy and IFRC Youth Policy.

  1. Key Responsibilities

The Youth and Volunteers Coordinator shall:

  1. Youth and Volunteer Engagement
    • Designs, plans and implements educational, recreational and developmental activities that meet the needs of the youths involved.
    • Create and implement outreach strategies to attract and retain youth participants and foster a positive, supportive environment.
    • Source and recruit volunteers through various channels; social media, emails and community outreach.
    • In collaboration with HR&A Department, interview potential volunteers and match their skills and interests with the organization’s needs.
    • Support the establishment and functionality of youth structures at chapter, branch and community levels.
    • Foster participation, inclusion, and leadership opportunities for youth and volunteers.
    • Consult with managers across the organization to identify their volunteer needs and create volunteer roles that add value.
  2. Program Planning and Implementation
    • Plan and implement youth and volunteer activities across the country in line with the LNRCS annual operational plan.
    • Coordinate national and international youth events, including International Youth Day, Volunteer Day, and Red Cross Youth Week.
    • Create and facilitate engaging workshops and events.
    • Set program and participation requirements
    • Train and schedule volunteers for ongoing tasks and events.
    • Evaluate volunteer performance and develop strategies to motivate them
    • Ensure policies and procedures relating to volunteering, including safeguarding and risks assessments, are in place and up-to-date.
  3. Networking and Partnership Building
    • Establish, cultivate, manage and maintain partnerships with youth organizations, and community-based groups.
    • Represent LNRCS youth and volunteer interests in relevant forums and networks.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with community agencies, schools and other partners
    • Communicate with youth participants, parents and community members.
    • Provide support and respond to the needs and concerns of participants, volunteers and staff.
    • Promote volunteering opportunities internally and externally through publicity campaigns, events and social media.
  4. Resource Mobilization
    • Develop project proposals, concept notes, and funding requests to support youth and volunteer initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Fundraising and Communication Units to attract and manage resources for youth programs.
    • Manage resources and budgets related to volunteers activities including reimbursement of expenses.
  5. Digital System Management
    • Manage and update the LNRCS Youth and Volunteer digital database system.
    • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and analysis on youth and volunteer engagement.
    • Track volunteer hours and maintain volunteer databases and records.
    • Track program (youth/volunteers) metrics and produce reports on program outcomes.
  6. Capacity Building and Mentorship
    • Provide spot coaching, peer education, and on-the-job mentoring for youth and volunteers.
    • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and exchange visits to build capacity and strengthen leadership skills.
  7. Reporting and Coordination
    • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports on all youth and volunteer activities.
    • Coordinate with the LNRCS Youth and Development Commission to align activities with strategic priorities and overall National Society mission goals.
  8. Event Organization
    • Organize and coordinate youth and volunteer events, including training, community services, recreational activities, debates, meetings, and exchange visits.
  1. Expected Deliverables
  • Annual and quarterly work plans and reports on youth and volunteer activities.
  • Updated digital youth and volunteer database.
  • At least two national-level youth/volunteer events conducted annually.
  • Resource mobilization proposals and partnership agreements developed.
  • Documented capacity-building sessions and coaching reports.
  1. Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Youth Work, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in youth development, volunteer management, or community engagement.
  • Experience in project planning, implementation, and reporting.
  • Strong networking, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of Red Cross Red Crescent Movement principles is an asset.

  1. Duration and Reporting

The Youth and Volunteers Coordinator report directly to the Secretary General and works closely with the Youth and Development Commission, branch youth focal points, and volunteers nationwide.
