Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise offering workable, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes.

Most of our work is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). However, GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries and public and private bodies in Germany and abroad.

GIZ operates throughout Germany and in more than 130 countries worldwide. We have about 17,000 staff members around the globe, some 70% of whom are employed locally as national personnel.

Position: IT Specialist

Location: Freetown, Sierra-Leone

Contract Period: One year (required immediately)

Purpose of the post

IT Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all GIZ software systems including supervising all activities within the GIZ and maintaining and updating all required IT standards.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

• Administering of internal GIZ IT infrastructure and supporting multiple business critical IT installations, including networking and server infrastructure hosted both on-premise and cloud;
• Actively monitoring systems and analysing alerts/logs as required;
• Contributing to operational process improvements and maintaining relevant documentation;
• Provide IC related support and guidance to staff members;
• Resolving support cases and service requests related to IT Operations, escalating to local and foreign service providers where needed.

Job requirements

• Proven track record of IT knowledge, supported by relevant qualifications and experience (3+ years of working experience);
• Solid knowledge of networking principles (ideally experience on Cisco devices), Windows Operating Systems, Office365 administration;
• Experience with Cloud services;
• Good working knowledge of desktop/laptop and malware applications;
• Ability to work on own initiative and meet targets with little supervision.
