Marketing Associate

Teach For Liberia’s (TFL) mission is to build the movement to ensure that every Liberian child is afforded an excellent education. Our goal is to inspire Liberia’s most promising future leaders to expand educational opportunities by becoming teachers in some of the most underserved communities in the country. TFL recruits college graduates and trains them as teachers for a two-year commitment to work in rural and urban areas in Liberia. In the long term, Teach For Liberia Alumni will form a growing cadre of leaders working in various sectors to expand educational opportunities for all children in Liberia.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Head of Recruitment, Selection & Marketing (RSM), the role will be integrated into a team with the aim of recruiting, selecting, and matriculating participants for the TFL Fellowship. They will liaise with the Head of RSM to lead the organization’s marketing, branding, and public relations efforts. This role is essential to ensuring the sustainable growth and impact of TFL through raising the profile of the organization among key stakeholders as an opinion leader in education and a top employer for university graduates and young professionals. As Marketing Associate, this person will also work to raise the prestige of the teaching profession in Liberia and showcase what students can achieve when supported by motivated and well-trained teachers. We are looking for a candidate with at least 3 years of work experience in the field of marketing and communications. Candidates must have exceptional written and oral communication skills, strategic thinking, and excellent ability to influence and motivate others.

 

Team Overview

The team advocates and strives to get high potential leaders into our classrooms to ensure Teach For Liberia’s continued and multiplied impact on Liberian education. The TFL team’s work is at the core of building our movement.

The Fellowship’s Recruitment team is responsible for building the Teach For Liberia’s brand nationally, internationally, and within colleges and corporations to attract the best talent in Liberia. As one of the most prominent external facing teams, the team members build the brand of Teach For Liberia nationally through engagement with the top institutions of the country, media partnerships, branding and promotion campaigns, and by creating strong champions for the movement. We provide avenues for prospective applicants to meet with Fellows, Staff, Students and Alumni, and we meet with corporate and college stakeholders to invest them in the movement. The Associate will work in a young, modern and innovative working environment, with great flexibility. Above all, the Associate needs to be tremendously motivated by the

possibility of changing education and making it truly equitable for all students, regardless of the socio-economic environment in which they were born.

 

Responsibilities

  • Alongside the Head of RSM, lead Teach For Liberia’s communication efforts to ensure that the organizational key messages effectively reach all of our priority target audiences (prospective applicants, prospective and existing corporate donors, policy and decision makers, school principals, students).
    • Build better understanding of the characteristics of all target audiences – interests, desires, preferences, etc.
    • Thoroughly analyze the dynamics and culture behind each target audience; understand the web of influences and “key players” within each target audience
    • Effectively formulate specific core messages that lead to certain desired behaviors from each target audience
    • Identify key communication channels and other relevant tactics through which we are able to send our key messages to each target audience
    • Manage the content creation and design work for the website and all social media channels to ensure they are powerful and up-to-date communication channels
    • Identify key print and online media channels through which we can reach a maximum number of people from each target audience
    • Ensure that we leverage all of our public events in terms of communicating our brand and core messages
    • Coordinate the conduction of target market researches and brand perception analysis among all target audiences

 

  • Assist Head of RSM in Teach For Liberia’s marketing efforts to ensure that the organization generates sufficient number of quality registrations and applications for the Fellowship.
    • Develop and execute the annual recruitment marketing strategy and provide marketing expertise and strategic support
    • Review the recruitment marketing strategic activities and processes on a regular basis to adapt strategy as needed and plan needed innovations and changes based on outcomes and data
    • Be a strategic thought-partner to the Head of RSM on how we can effectively keep raising the profile of the program and generate interest from top talent in Liberia and abroad to apply

 

  • Oversee the production of strong recruitment marketing materials.

 

  • Act as the ultimate organizational brand champion, develop internal brand stewardship among our community (staff, teachers, alumni, and supporters), and ensure brand alignment in all external communication and marketing collateral.
    • Conduct internal trainings on brand stewardship and using the branding guidelines
    • Support team members with branding/marketing requests when creating external documents to ensure alignment with our brand identity and core messaging.

 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national and regional journalists to ensure positive and sufficient coverage of the organization’s work and impact.
    • Develop and implement a proactive plan to position the organization as an opinion leader in education and a top employer for university graduates and young professionals
    • Respond to media enquiries and react to the news agenda
    • Create an effective crisis communication plan and ensure the organization is fully prepared when a crisis emerges
    • Meet with and engage national and regional journalists to generate positive media coverage
    • Ensure clear systems are in place for forward planning our media work, identifying proactive and reactive opportunities
    • Manage the effective monitoring of our media work, sharing and evaluating its success ensure relevant colleagues are suitably briefed, aware of key organizational positions and messages and are suitably media trained
    • Write and distribute press releases and Op-Eds.

  • Proven experience in Marketing and Communications
  • Proficiency in analyzing large data-sets and making inferences to drive strategies and decisions
  • Monitoring and Evaluation experience highly valued

Education and Experience

  • University graduate with a minimum of three year’s work experience.
