Teach For Liberia addresses the educational crisis in Liberia by recruiting college graduates and professionals who have a passion for education and a dedication to improve education development in Liberia. After selection, we provide tailored, high-quality training for placement in rural and urban primary schools for a period of two years.

Position Overview

We are searching for self-motivated Teacher Training and Support Mentors to assist the Head of Training (HoT) with the professional development and improvement of teachers at our schools. The Teacher Trainers’ responsibilities include monitoring teacher performance, observing classes, making assessments, developing and facilitating extracurricular team-building and professional development sessions, scheduling workshops, as well as conducting one-on-one training, and providing reports to the HoT. The ability to interact with teachers from a variety of diverse backgrounds and deliver supportive feedback to them are required. Great analytical and observational skills are a must to adequately address the needs of the teachers. Exceptional candidates are those who demonstrate diplomatic and excellent interpersonal skills, and are able to rapidly identify problems and provide solutions.

The Teacher Training and Support Mentor will report to the Head of Teacher Training and Program Manager.

Position Responsibilities

  • Organizing workshops and training sessions.
  • Observing lessons and identifying teachers’ strengths and weaknesses.
  • Providing feedback, advice, and individual training sessions for teachers.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff to develop improved curricula, lesson plan assessments, and classroom management techniques.
  • Setting timely goals for teachers as well as students, and providing advice and guidance to ensure that these goals are met
  • Returning to classrooms to reassess progress when teachers have completed their training.
  • Supervising classroom activities, taking notes, and writing up reports to share with school administrators and relevant stakeholders.
  • Developing new strategies and plans for an improved learning experience.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in teaching as well as your relevant subject area.
  • Building teacher networks and encouraging teachers to share their resources and knowledge.
  • Assists with payment of teacher stipends and benefits (until otherwise instructed).
  • Supports the Head of Training and serves as one of the lead facilitators during the institute.
  • Lead staff member bridging between program and participants.
  • Executes routine teacher monitoring, observations, and surveys to collect insights from fellows and other tasks as required by the HoT.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Teaching experience of at least 3 years
  • Experience teaching adults might be advantageous
