JOB SUMMARY
The Welder Assistant supports the welding and fabrication needs of Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. by assisting with the repair, fabrication, and maintenance of crushing plant components, structural steel, truck bodies, and other equipment. As a front-line, on-site leader, the Welder Assistant helps ensure welding and fabrication work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while supporting the lead welder and maintenance team in keeping equipment and site infrastructure operational. The role reports directly to the General Manager and requires practical hands-on skills, a strong safety mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow within the trade.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as an on-site leader by setting a strong example of safety, discipline, and professionalism for other maintenance and site personnel.
- Assist the lead welder in fabricating, repairing, and installing metal components, structures, and equipment parts used across the quarry and crushing plant.
- Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, cleaning, and aligning metal pieces prior to fabrication.
- Set up and maintain welding equipment, gas cylinders, and related tools, ensuring they are in safe working order.
- Support repairs to truck bodies, chutes, hoppers, guards, railings, and other steel structures as directed.
- Assist with routine and emergency welding repairs to minimize equipment downtime and keep production on schedule.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding/fabrication work area, including proper storage of tools, gases, and materials.
- Follow all safety procedures related to welding, cutting, grinding, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye and face protection.
- Coordinate with the Excavator Mechanic and Plant Manager/Crushing Supervisor to prioritize fabrication and repair tasks around production needs.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and jobs outstanding.
- Report any equipment faults, safety hazards, or shortages of welding materials and consumables to the General Manager.
- Continue to develop welding skills and techniques under the guidance of the lead welder and supervisors.
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably assigned by the General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Technical/vocational training or apprenticeship in welding, fabrication, or a related trade is preferred.
- 1 – 3 years of experience assisting with welding and fabrication work, preferably in a quarry, construction, industrial, or workshop environment.
- Basic knowledge of common welding processes (e.g., arc/stick welding) and cutting/grinding tools.
- Ability to read and follow simple technical instructions and sketches for fabrication and repair work.
- Basic literacy and numeracy sufficient to complete work records and material logs.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely with welding equipment, gases, and hand/power tools.

- Good hands-on mechanical aptitude with attention to detail in fabrication and repair work.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and personal accountability.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with the lead welder, mechanics, and site teams.
- Physical fitness and stamina to manage demanding, hands-on work in an outdoor quarry and workshop environment.
- Honesty and integrity in handling company tools, materials, and equipment.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow professionally within the welding trade.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Based on-site at the Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. quarry in Zarzone Town, District 1, Margibi County, working primarily in the workshop and out on the active quarry floor.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, noise, heat, sparks, and fumes typical of a welding and fabrication environment.
- May require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend work to support urgent repairs and maintain production schedules.
- Strict adherence to all site safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding-specific gear, is mandatory.
