Riders for Health is Liberia Integrated National Specimen Transport & logistic Management system. A (Non-For-Profit Social Enterprise), and part of the Global Riders Network in Africa with over 37 years of existence in 8 African Countries and 11 years in Liberia. Riders Liberia provides transportation support and works with the Ministry of Health through its County Health Teams (County Diagnostic Officers) and with National Public Health Institute of Liberia through its County Surveillance Officers in all 15 counties. From April 2015 to present and up to 2029, Riders for Health Liberia’s prime funder is the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC). Alongside the WHO, World Bank, USAID, AFFENET, ICF, Global Fund, PLAN, etc. Since Ebola ended the system has leveraged its existing infrastructure including trained human resources, understanding of Liberia’s epidemiological trends, geo-political routes & bio-security experience, assets management, digital data collection platform, supply chain, cold chain, regional maintenance teams and early disease detection support system. Riders worked with the Liberia government and also fought COVID 19, MonekyPox and all disease outbreaks in Liberia.
Notably, in Liberia, distance, difficult terrain and weak transport systems, huge and fluctuating fuel prices and poor cold chain usually delay diagnosis and outbreak detection—especially for rural communities. Riders for Health Liberia gives the Ministry of Health a practical, scalable solution that closes said gap by transporting all specimens safely and reliably from health facilities to laboratories, using trained motorcycle couriers network, planned routes, relay handovers, GPS tracking, digital data collection, cold-chain equipment and temperature monitoring. Since 2015, Riders for Health Liberia has turned this critical health-system gap into a national asset_ a dependable specimen transport and built a fleet-management platform reaching all 15 counties and helping communities access enhanced surveillance, timely diagnosis, stopping disease transmission at source and emergency response that saves lives boosting Liberia Health Security.
